Oh man that blows....

Hope things heal quickly.

This has been a big fear of mine for years with the work I do.

There is a guy I know that investigates workplace fatalities and a guy had opened a drive cage on a very large conveyor to grab a piece of something that had gotten wrapped around the drive roller.

That story ended with guy getting cut completely in half and my buddy had to investigate that incident.

Pretty nasty but it is a constant reminder why we do not cut corners............ever.

I was washing dishes last night, broke a plate, and put a deep @ss gash into the meaty palm area of my thumb on my right hand.

Blood everywhere , ER, X-rays, five stitches, maybe some tendon damage, and god yeah, it hurts.

No guitar, no driving, no Rosy Palm and her four friends, no video games, no keyboards… I’m wrecked. Thank goodness I made the switch to bidets (y’all gotta go there if you haven’t) because my technique of wiping with the left is… let’s say; flawed.

Man, dunno how lucky I’ve been all these years without wrecking my mitts before.

I guess I’m gonna catch up on TV (I need to buy a left handed remote control) until this heals and I go to a hand specialist.

I’ll spare you the horror show pictures, because @Lola ’s husband’s feet has significantly traumatized us for the year.

But yeah, I’mma Sad Serge. I hope I can hold a pick again.
Hope you heal quickly !!!! and completely !!!

Take your time. Wait for it to heal. See a hand specialist (orthopedic doctor). They can check if there was a severed tendon or nerve. Ask when you can start seeing certified hand therapist (physical therapist or occupational therapist) for rehabilitation. Then enjoy playing again :)

Sorry to hear this, Sergio! I hope your recovery is both quick and normal.

That's the type of accident all of us guitarists worry about.

Years ago I grabbed a hot piece of a Sterno-fueled chafing dish and really smoked my thumb and forefinger. A concerned buddy who plays guitar instantly said, "Oh no! Which hand?" o_O

The body is a superb machine.

I really am sorry

I am sorry to have traumatized you but that’s reality. Now I feel horrible. Sorry

AND DON'T GET YOUR A$$ HOOKED ON PAIN PILLS!
They never offer me pain pills.

I even disappointedly confronted them when they asked me about my pharmacy information. I was all like “Why? You bastids never prescribe me anything.”

The only doctor who respects me enough to give me drugs is my plastic surgeon (I love her).

That's horrible 'cos you prob had plans to do something else!!! Les's advice is paramount here. Work it right away, see a specialist and don't give up on the first one if they don't sound hopeful.

This seems to be commonplace. A lady friend of mine had the tendon retract way up in her arm during a dishes incident, it doesn't take much when it comes to hands.

Also right handed Tacos still work lefty, you'll work those muscles into shape and you'll be like DaVinci, ambidextrous Taco eater!

Oh, @sergiodeblanc, first of all I wish you a quick and full recovery without any disfunction. Your sarcasm and irony is still alive, therefore you will suffer from being patient in preventing yourself from things, which are likely painfull and prolong recovery.
Relax. And a few things you shouldn't do in the moment, could be done by trustful and skilled third persons.

AND DON'T GET YOUR A$$ HOOKED ON PAIN PILLS!
When I burned my hand, they gave me 8 oxycontin. Told me me I was going to need them. I was worried.

I ended up using it the first 3 nights, altho I have to say, what worked even better was ice. My hand was bandaged up like in a war movie, but I put it on a pillow, and laid an XL bag of frozen peas on it. Instant relief. That's what got me through the first week. Again, I consider myself lucky, as everything I read told of HORRIFIC burn pain.

My best friend opened up his hand (pinky and ring finger) moving a fridge. Tendon damage. 2 operations. He DID need the oxy, he said his pain was horrific (after the surgeries). Basically used the pain meds to stay unconscious for 3 days.
