I attach mine to a small piece of decorative wood that can be bought at Hobby Lobby-type places. Then you can put them wherever you want without worrying about studs. If I hit a stud, great. If I don't I use snap toggles in the drywall. It's very solid. The photo is of a hollowbody guitar, but I hang all solidbodies on them as well with no issues.
