#7 neck Pickup split sound close to a Fender

How do you reduce the muddy/dark tone on the neck S2 #7 pickup?

Have you tried eq'ing?

I'm not actually liking the split on any humbucker. Based on YouTube demos, I am liking the sound of parallel wiring it. The #7s on my S2 Std 22 will be replaced with Dimarzio D Activator X set and will be trying out parallel wiring instead of splits.
