I've been interested in one of the new 2017 SE cu24's. I'm very much considering buying it but also looking in to spending a few more bucks and spring for a used S2. I've a got a friend who's a hardcore PRS player and is trying to steer me away from the SE's because theyre far-eastern made. I see "usa made" as more of a status symbol and as long as the build quality is great, it doesn't bother me. What are your opinions? I really like the Whale blue finish on the se cu24.

I'd go S2 all day long. But I don't buy new anything anymore. A lot of used stuff is still in brand new condition but at a fraction of the cost of new.

Why though? What's the big differences? I could spend 3 or 4 hundred more to get a good used s2, but what's the main motivation behind that?

Buy one of each (SE, S2, Core, PS) and make your own decision. It's an experiential thing.

I still advocate for SE. For the money SE is an amazing guitar. The factory in Korea where they are made has a spotless reputation. After being made in Korea all of the guitars are set up in Maryland at the PRS factory and inspected for quality.

S2 might be a step up but why not just save for a used core at that point. I say go for a used SE then save for a used core when you're ready.

Edit: I'm also not a big fan of the S2 top carve. The bevel is not so appealing to me.

Play the SE, play the S2, pick the one you like the best. What I hear is that money isn't the deciding factor.
