Hey everyone!
I am currently searching for a new amp and am wondering what your experiences with the Archon family are and wanted to check and see if it would meet my needs.
I currently own a 2x12 Mesa Boogie Roadster combo, and while I do enjoy the master volume feature, the drive channels have the usual fizz to them that Mesas tend to have at lower volumes. I purchased a rectoverb 25 head and a matching 1x12 cabinet but not only does this amp not have a master volume, it seems to go from off to LOUD extremely quickly, I guess this is a known occurrence with these amps, as the pot ends lift from their contact on the extreme ends of the dial.
I play the Roadster on 50 watts and the Rectoverb 25 on 25 watts however I am looking for something...more. I have watched probably every Archon video on youtube (and even sat through the 45 minute Chappers/The Captian/Andertons review video) and I absolutely love the sound.
I am still on the fence about combo vs head, and whether or not I should just go for broke and get the plum archon 100 head (if they are still available) as it would match my violet tremonti. The cabinet I would pair the amp with would be a mesa 2x12 vertical cabinet if I went the head route.
What do you guys think? Are there any Mesa players here who decided to go down the Archon path?
