Had a few days just sitting around waiting to hear back on a demo, and thought I'd use the time productively.
I've been reading a book on Sir Francis Drake, and it details his journey circumnavigating the Earth, 1577-1580. He was the first to do it and return alive. Magellan almost did it, but was hacked to death by indigenous people before he got back. Bad luck for him.
Anyway, the book has some pretty harrowing stories about being becalmed, run aground, storms, etc. At one point there was eerie calm in Antarctic waters as he was rounding South America, surrounded by sheer cliffs of ice and strange events.
I was thinking about all that, and I decided to 'score' it, to create a tone poem about it. So imagine the ship not moving, no wind. It's been like that for a few days, and everyone's freaking out. But suddenly the sails start luffing, gradually filling, and the ship is slowly under sail Still scary, still dangerous, but...you're moving.
Only crazy people score books, not movies. That'd be me.
