Robbie Robertson, Leader of The Band, Dies at 80

Guitarist-songwriter-singer Robbie Robertson, who led the Canadian-American group the Band to rock prominence in the 1970s, has died. He was 80.

yes, came out of nowhere. I had not heard of his dealing with any illness.

I got to meet Robbie in Baltimore while doing sound and stage work for the filming of 'Shine Your Light' video that featured in the Ladder 49 movie soundtrack. We set up the stage on a rooftop in downtown Baltimore. Super nice guy, very appreciative. This video seems very fitting on the day of his death. RIP fella...Shine Your Light

The first and last time I saw The Band with Robertson was May 5th, 1971 in Frankfurt, Germany when they were touring 'Stage Fright'. The auditorium was half full so we moved way down front. They were loud and great. RIP Robbie Robertson.

This one got me. I was never a huge fan of the Band, they were just always part of the soundtrack of my growing up. I was a hard rocker, but The Band’s music was always around, and always brilliant. I think the soundtrack to Easy Rider really brought them to my awareness.

Maybe because he really did not look 80?
At least not in last recent healthy pictures I saw.

Now Steve Howe on the other hand...lol.

But he was absolutely blistering when I saw him live earlier this year with Yes.

A tenth of his talent would make me a very happy chappy
