George Fest: The Music of George Harrison

Premiered tonight. I saw it on VH1 Classic, but it's showing on MTV also and, I believe, being repeated several times(Check your local listings). Outstanding performances, great live sound and truly a heartfelt tribute to one of the best ever songwriter and guitarists of that little old band from Liverpool. Well worth your time to check it out.

As a self-admitted Beatles freak, I have always regarded George's songwriting skills to be among the best. It always baffled me how Lennon and McCartney were always so adamant about having the lion's share of the songwriting while George and Ringo' contributions were always kicked to the background. I can definitely understand why George wanted to leave the group around the time of "Revolver" (and actually did quit during the recording of the disastrous "Let It Be" sessions at Twickenham). "All Things Must Pass" was a far superior album to anything the other 3 Beatles had done at the time of their breakup. And in true Harrison humor, when it was revealed that McCartney later stated that he wished to start collaborating with him, he said "well he's left it rather late, hasn't he?"
