I really like the looks of this finish from pictures I see online, but unfortunately there is no dealer around that stocks a guitar in this finish. I was wondering why some pictures seem to be much a much lighter shade of blue than others? Is this a standard color, or is each guitar a little different?

For example, why is the musicians friend one so much lighter than this reverb one?

Different pieces of wood are themselves not a uniform color, and each one absorbs the stain a little differently as well.

I'm no expert here but type of camera, lighting, background, angles, etc... could all be factors. I'm sure there's variation on the colours themselves.

I like the Faded Whale Blue but I miss the original Whale Blue. And I agree with you: brick and mortar stores aren't carrying these higher end guitars anymore. At least not in my area.

I'd echo what Les said, and add that picture quality varies. A pic posted by a dealer may be of "professional" quality while something on a sellers site may be less than optimal. Some dealers post pics of the actual guitar, and some may post one of that model, etc. etc. I recently bought a guitar that looked much lighter in the pics than it does in person. I actually preferred the light color in the pics more than I do the actual color, but it sounds, and plays awesome. As long as I've got those two things I could give a rats a$$ what it looks like.
