Curious, what's your amplifier of choice?

Best sounding amp I've ever played is the Friedman Smallbox combo wildwood version, and at 3600 bucks it ought to be! Thats as long as you're after the Marshall sound. You can turn the controls anywhere you want, and it sounds fantastic, 50 watts, effects loop , clean, gain and boost channels. with a thump and presence control as well. Even at bedroom volumes it sounds fantastic. I've been playing for 50 years and I never played anything that sounded this good.

Got this Peavey Classic 20MH a few days ago. What an amp ! Not much you can't do with it. I might let go of my Delta Blues 210.

Necro-ing and old thread because it popped up in the "similar threads" thing at the bottom of some other thread. So my last entry in this thread was calling out the little Mesa MKV25. I've since gotten a Mesa Triple Crown TC-100. I prefer it to the little MKV25 for a couple of reasons. First, the darned 100 watt amp plays better at bedroom volume than the 25 watt amp does due to built in attenuation, but more so due to an excellent final volume control. The MKV25 has a very touchy master in comparison - it literally lead me to own a Fryette PS-2. The TC-100 just doesn't need the PS-2. The other reason, is it is much easier for me to dial in pleasing tones on the TC-100. I never gelled (jelled? Jellied? Jammed?) with the controls on the MKV25. I can dial in decent tones on the mini mark. I can just do it much easier on the TC. Who'd a thunk it?

Now to see if this thread revives or sinks again into the abyss.

Those Peavey Classics are great , I had a Classic 30 for years , sold it to my best friend and he loves it too .

For me it depends on what I'm going for . The DG30 is my preferred clean amp, the Blue Sierra 50 my fave dirty amp, my trusty old Boogie Studio 22+with a 4x12 Marshall slant for vintage rock. For Jazz it's the Mesa Rosette (300w acoustic)

You're starting with a larger palette, richer sounding platform, larger transformers, bigger output tubes, blah blah blah blah.

And blah. <---- I'm blathering on and on. But all that blah and blah affects tone, even at low volume settings.

"You're always blathering on. It's what you do."

"I'm a cranky old man, but on the plus side, I'm a handsome devil who still has those youthful looks."

"Not all that young looking, pal."

"OK, but my doctor says I look young."

"Get real. All his other patients are pushing 100. You only look young in comparison to 100."

"I tell everyone I'm 100 so they can compliment me on my youthful appearance. I crave positive attention. So I told my doc that."

So, there’s a mint MkV25 combo that needs a home. I find the Kemper and the TC-100 to be more than I need. Wink- wink, nod-nod I guess…

Mods - if this strays to far over the line, let me know.

I just waved goodbye to the little Mesa. I included a matched pair of Mesa EL84’s and an MXR little black amp box, and got a fair price for it. I’ll miss it, it’s such a cool little amp. It sounds like it will get played by a son and his dad, so it’s going to a good home.

I Hear Ya...Parting Is Never Easy. Plug Into That TC-100 And Play Yourself Happy. ;)

Yeah, I have a TC-100 at home, and the baby Mesa is going to a good home. No complaints from me! The dad said he was jonesing for a Mark VII. I can only hope this pushes him closer.

The TC-100 solves one of the problems that the Kemper also solves. I don’t think the Kemper is in jeopardy just yet, but time will tell. The PS-2 is definitely in jeopardy though.

I Can See That On The PS-2.

The Dad Is Onto Something With The Mark 7...Very Nice Amp Indeed.

I Think You Would Be foolish To Part With The Kemper Or The TC-100 As They Both Do So Much And Seem To Fit Your Wants And Needs Perfectly From What I Have Gathered. I Could Be Wrong Though...It Has Happened Before On Very Rare Occassion...LOL. ;)

I’m pretty much agreed. I don’t see the Triple Crown leaving unless I get to the point I just can’t lift it. Or a sudden streak of madness strikes. That’s happened on rare occasions.

I have to tell you, that one haunted me for a while after it's introduction. But, as I've said many times, I tried so many Mesa's and really liked them all, but was just not blown away by any of them, including what I thought would be my dream amp, the Mark V. I still regret selling the V though, as I sold it at the WORST time (market price wise), then gave it away to avoid shipping it... and got my best cab after it was gone...

I was on a "Triple Crown Curious" adventure for a while. Was actively seeking one to try, but I was looking mainly at 50 watt models. The combination of about a 50% price increase (driving used prices to over what they cost new) and Bogner saying 100 watt or nothing, flipped that switch back off for now. Now, if I see one, I'll try it, but for now I"m not actively seeking one to try. Plus the new Blistertone will keep me busy for a while.

The 100 Watt TC Is Simply A More Feature Laden And Overall Better Amp Than The 50. The TC Is Unlike Any Other mesa I Have Or Have Played. I Do Think You Would Genuinely Love The Amp. The Mark V Gets Dogged On But I Still Think It Is A Nice Amp Although I Will Say The 7 Very Well Could Be The Best Mark Made For Some Types Of Players And I Love The IV And The II So I Know that Is A Big Statement. I Am Glad You Settled In On An Amp You Dig Which Is Really What It Is All About. :)

The main difference I noticed in the 100 and 50 was the 100 has their power scaling.

I REALLY wanted to love the V, and many times was very close. But every time I dialed something I really loved, it was gone the next time I turned it on AND I couldn't dial it back in. MAYBE I should have tried rolling more tubes through it, but I tired quickly of spending that much time and especially with that many tubes, "testing" rather than playing.

It's the character of the gain that interested me in the TC, and perhaps it is "the Mesa I always wanted," but like I said, I'm not chasing one any more. I'll certainly try one if I see it though.

And yes, I found one I dig, but I just got it, I LOVE the Archon, and long term I "want" a few great tones and amps. SO maybe...
