I should have started this thread 2 years ago. Since almost day one of becoming active here, I've had constant issues with login. If it was just one computer or type of computer or something, I'd think it was the device. It's not. It's now 3 different Windows PCs, 2 different Android tablets, 2 different iPads and two different iPhones.

I almost always use Chrome across all platforms. I constantly get this "this site needs cookies to work, blah blah blah" error. I've set it up long ago to accept cookies form this forum.

Many times, I'll be browsing here, look at a thread and hit my "back" button and suddenly I'm logged out and can't log back in. Sometimes, closing the site works, but not often. Sometimes, closing Chrome completely works, again not often. Sometimes I have to go in and clear cache and cookies and start over. That usually works. Not always!

I have this issue with no other sites. And is not an occasional or "happens every once in a while" deal. It's almost daily, and while I hate to complain, I'm getting tired of it. Many times, I can say have this issue on my home laptop, give up, pick up the iPad and get right in. An hour later, it happens on the iPad and MAYBE if I switch back the laptop will get on, or I'll move to the android tablet and it will work. I'm just getting tired of it. Anyone else have these issues?

Very odd. I've never had any sort of issues like that, even when I use my work computer that's mega filtered :)rolleyes:)

I have 3 laptops (all Win10 now) from 5 years old to 5 months old, two iPads from 5-6 years old to 2 years old, two android tablets from 5 years old to 2 weeks old. This issue is universal to all of them. If nobody else has this issue... maybe someone doesn't WANT me logged in. LOL

Make sure you are accessing via https:// instead of http://. I used to have the same problem. In Chrome, if you just navigate to forums.prsguitars.com, it takes you to the unsecured address. Security then kicks in and throws a fit when you try to log in.

Garrett, I think that may be it! After all this time, I never noticed that. To check it, I just clicked the link on my links bar and sure enough, not logged in. I just edited that link to the https version and that should sync through Chrome across all devices. I can't believe I've had this issue for this long and it was something this simple, but I think it might be fixed. THANKS!!!!!!!!!!

(I guess my only question would be, why does this happen after I've been in the forum and going from thread to thread, then hit the back button and am logged out. But perhaps, its because I clicked the old link and have been in the forum the whole time in the unsecured address. We'll see).

Because when you hit back, it took you to an http address.

I guess that's what I have to see, since I'm going back to the home page (or amps page or electric guitar page, etc.) that I've already been to 10 times, and then suddenly it doesn't work anymore.

There was a minor forum issue a while back, where the PRS block logo at top left resolved to the unsecured URL instead of https:// -- which, with Chrome's beefed up security protections, triggers a safety warning, and logs you out.

It's because of this: Google tightens noose on HTTP: Chrome to stick 'Not secure' on pages with search fields

Xenforo, or any other forum software with input fields and search boxes, is going to hit that wall every time you're accessing the site via an unsecured connection.

I thought that was the case at one point. I noticed yesterday that the logo link and the Home link are now both hard coded to point to https.

Exactly that in my case, about 6 months ago I think, maybe more, across many computers/platforms. My bookmarks had been the unsecured http, not https. I asked a Mod about it, and they suggested going direct to the the secure site. Problem solved.

Right, I stumbled across that in November myself, and our intrepid admin was kind enough to fix it. (I think this all corresponds back to the launch of the 2018 line and new website section. When you come in from Google, for example, it directs you to the unsecured site. Security certificates and SEO aren't quite my forte but that should be pretty easily cleaned up by someone with the proper kung-fu.)
