Guess it just doesn't work for me, probably the reason why I like the flame on my 335 is due to it being a one piece.
This thing has actually made me wonder if I'm OCD or something, the way 2 piece ones seem to just niggle at me.
Wow, that looks really good. I'm wanting a 24 fret guitar (and my first PRS) and I've been trying to choose between the PRS S2 CU24 and the 30th Anniversary CU24 but I'm thinking I might just go with the regular S2. Plus I hear the finish on the S2 wears really easily which is a plus for me.
I think one of the reason I prefer plain tops over most flamed ones is I really can't stand mismatched tops and I'm not a fan of the split down the middle of a two piece top at all. I actually kind of like some of the Santana model flame tops more for this reason since you can't really the inlay...
I know I keep jumping from model to model but I've been hearing people complaining about the S2 Cu24s, saying that the finish on them chips really easily. That could actually be a selling point for me since I like the look of a naturally worn guitar. Hmmm...
I'd be interested to hear them as it'd give me some idea of whether my notions of what I associate with both brands tonally are correct or not. If you post a blind comparison I will message you what I think the result is.
Cheers,
William.
I find it depends on the pedal themselves. I once had three pedals: Barber gain changer, Strymon Timeline and a Hardwire tuner. I thought I would have no problems with this set up but noticed as soon as I got it going that my signal suddenly sounded a lot more flat and lifeless. Interestingly...
So that does mean if I really like the way a well played Gibson ages as it gets older in terms of aesthetics (wear down the neck, etc, etc) I'll be unlikely to see that with a PRS in 20-30 years?
There is a used PRS Prism on Daves Guitar shop website for an okay price. Listening to some demos of this model, it sounds good to me and I like the style of flame top more than most flames (I know many can't stand the Prism top). Has anyone here owned/owns one of these?
On a modern PRS with a V12 finish is it possible to wear the finish off the neck over time from playing? I know that some DGTs had issues with the finish flaking off but I hadn't seen any really heavily worn due to playing.
Watching this has given me a new possible theory as to why I disliked the clean tone of the CU24 and Cu22 models that I tried. Around 20:00 or so, the Captain gets a clean tone with the CU24 that sounds really nice to my ears (much nicer than what Chappers was getting with the CU22 right before...
What sort of music do you play? Also, you're probably already aware of this but personal preference can be such a tricky thing that it could be hard to say what the right model for you is.
