    Buckle rash protection

I have purchased an S2 standard 22 tobacco sunburst with gloss finish, which I think is georgeous. Plays well too. I dont really want it to suffer buckle rash if I can help it. It is probably sacrilege to cover up the back with some kind of sticky tape of something, but that is what I'm thinking...

Hitting the middle pickup with plectrum

Choice of picks has got to be part of this. I use triangle type Gibson picks which are a bit bigger so asking for trouble I know, but regular picks dont work for me as they seemed flimsy to hold. I tried just picking between middle and bridge but it was difficult to be consistent on that. If I...

Hitting the middle pickup with plectrum

Probably due to my lack of skill, I often am hitting the 2 raised magnet poles of the middle pickup of my SE EG HSS. Lowering the pickup obviously fixes this, but at a cost to the sound. My solution was to take off the pickguard, unscrew the middle pickup, and re-fix with 2 washers (about 1mm...

    Applauding new S2 Standard 22

I got the last tobacco sunburst. I got a frost green first but found it too much for me and swapped over. I looked the other day and they just had black left

    Applauding new S2 Standard 22

I bought a brand new S2 Standard 22 recently for a good price in UK from Andertons. I though they had stopped making these models. Sale or return online, and I was half expecing it wasnt going to be worth the cash. I have a SE EG HSS and a Soapbar 2 already. I had thought the S2 was just US...

    Nut width obsession

Nut width is one of the standard measurements of guitars as we know, but why? Surely the width between E strings is the key thing if, like me, you have clunky fingers and need the space. I recently bought an S2 standard 22 new, and was a bit stressed as the nut width was billed as 1 21/32" as...

SE EG HSS switch rewiring question

I have an SE EG HSS and I want to change the wiring so the centre switch position selects the neck and bridge pickup together, instead of the centre pickup alone. Does anyone know if this can be done, and/or have a wiring diagram. Thank you.

Advice on replacement pickups for SE CU22 from 2006

Stop press! I have bought the Seymour Duncan Hot Rodded Humbucker set, Jazz and JB, and will fit to the CU22. My thinking is that its definitely worth trying, and even if it doesnt I will hold on to to them for any other guitar I may have. Thanks for all your contributions.

Advice on replacement pickups for SE CU22 from 2006

Interesting point. I actually use headphones at home for practice to be a good neighbour and partner. Then am surprised when it sounds so different in rehearsal rooms for band practice. Less 'body' than I am expecting and too much midrange usually. But there again there are so many oher...

Advice on replacement pickups for SE CU22 from 2006

No offence to CU22 owners with stock pickups from 2006, but I feel I am trying to turn a frog into a prince on the cheap. Thanks for all your comments. I will sell the CU22 and hold on to the EG/Soapbar pair for a while until I can define more precisely what I want. I think part of the problem...

Advice on replacement pickups for SE CU22 from 2006

Thanks for answers. Ideally I would want the clean sounds I can get from the EG, a kind of rich, clear tone with good sustain, plus the kind of exciting and raw distortion sound I can get from the Soapbar. I.e. all in with one guitar. I had though of upgrading to an S2 but I dont think that...

Advice on replacement pickups for SE CU22 from 2006

Interesting. I thought the S2 models had decent pickups. What didnt you like about them?

Advice on replacement pickups for SE CU22 from 2006

I have an SE EG which I love for clean sounds, a Soapbar 2 which is great for gritty distotion, and an SE custom22 from 2006 which just sits there doing nothing. The CU22 doesnt seem to be especially good at anything. I think it is the so-so pickups. Would it be worth getting a replacement neck...
