    Fatter Wide Thin Necks

Too many carbs is what makes the necks wide fat!

    Fatter Wide Thin Necks

Here’s a question for folks that are pickier on necks. Looking at Wildwood neck measurements and it seems there are some fatter Wide Thin necks that measure in the zone of my preferred Wide Fat carve in thickness (.84-.85, but who’s counting?). Have any folks who prefer thicker necks...

    McCartys... Let's see 'em!

Just posted this pair in another thread… but here they are side by side:

    NGD to me - McSoapy

Gotcha - it is clean in there, so looks like it was done the right way

    NGD to me - McSoapy

I will mention that from the pure looks department (player’s view only) there is some sort of washer/spacer thing going on. Not exactly the prettiest, but I would imagine there is a way to avoid that…

    NGD to me - McSoapy

Ha - those with an eye for detail noticed the control layout that I didn’t until I had the guitar in hand! Seems there was some fiddling with wires/knobs when Lollars were swapped in. Switching seems to be a bit easier to reach and so far it’s been volume and tone full-up on the soaps! Either...

    NGD to me - McSoapy

New to me and my first P90/soapbar guitar - 2009 McSoapy: Fits in nicely with my longtime ‘96 Custom 22 & ‘03 McCarty which was the gateway acquisition through a trade last year. I know I’m in the honeymoon phase, but those soapbars sound great!

Radical Pick-up swap (Custom 22) or new guitar

So that is how it played out…

Radical Pick-up swap (Custom 22) or new guitar

Yeah - I’ll probably leave it stock. For folks that have made the switch to 57/08 from either Dragon or McCarty pickups - are you happy you did it? Was it a big tone change? My latest thinking is that these are relatively subtle differences between these humbuckers and maybe I should reorient...

Radical Pick-up swap (Custom 22) or new guitar

Maybe I’ll tinker with the McCarty instead… there is something really nice going on with that guitar in the low-mids/resonance and how it comes through the pickups, so maybe not. This is going to play out with a third PRS - right?

I have not tried those. Seems like a ton of tones on tap. I think I’ll need to check those out.

Radical Pick-up swap (Custom 22) or new guitar

Very cool - I’ll keep my eyes/ears out for it! I did try out a newer 594 and I just couldn’t get along with the fatter neck carve. Why mess with the perfect 90s necks? :)

Radical Pick-up swap (Custom 22) or new guitar

It’s a keeper! There is too much sentimental attachment to that one… I may not be able to bring myself to mess with the pickups!

Radical Pick-up swap (Custom 22) or new guitar

Demos sound cool, but from what I’m reading some folks seem to think that it just does an ok (but not great) job of each pickup style. I wonder if a more dedicated P90 in hum size would do a better job of that sound? I’d trade versatility for a killer tone. As an aside - any thoughts on...

Radical Pick-up swap (Custom 22) or new guitar

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I am hesitant to swap out dragons! So I would be hanging onto them for a bit DISTORT6 even if I swapped out. I made a little comparison track of the two guitars. In each phrase type it is the McCarty followed by the Custom 22: McCarty vs 22 Hopefully link...
