Impossible to get covers of PRS pickups

Razor blades are attracted to magnets, but are not magnetic themselves. Any magnetic charge they might pickup would be insufficient to degauss pickup magnets. Degaussing works by exposing the ioriginal magnet to powerful magnetic field in order to rearrange the polarity of its particles...

Impossible to get covers of PRS pickups

I’ve done it many times. Best way is to use a razor blade - as used in scrapers - and work it through the solder. Rocking and pushing. Requires some elbow grease. PRS covers are very, very thin. They are thinnest I have ever measured. The major and boutique builders, and parts suppliers hadn’t...

Ptc refinishes. Do they remove all finish?

Generally, yes, they would. It’s the only way to ensure finish quality and durability. Mixing finish systems is a no-no.

    Tremolo Bar Corrosion Advice

Core bars are stainless. CE/S2/SE are not. You can try to polish it if the corrosion isn’t too bad. Ocean air shouldn’t be enough on its own - your pickup poles would corrode first. Did you buy it new? If so, contact PRS customer support. They’ll replace it. If you bought used, it might have...

    Truss rod woes

This is most likely a setup issue, if it only does that in playing position but not when hanging. A setup should always be double checked in playing position. Should be a simple fix for a guitar tech. …and you don’t want to remove the trussrod..

UPDATE: Mr.P's Extended Visit To Stevensville

Supposedly, the nitro formulation was designed to be more durable than a plain nitro finishes. Perhaps they responded to complaints or warranty claims?

UPDATE: Mr.P's Extended Visit To Stevensville

Odd. I had the PTC trginish a Custom 24 in early 2021, so 3 years. At that time my only option was nitro, since the factory had fully transitioned from poly to nitro. I preferred poly, but nitro was the only option. This suggests they have tweaked their nitro formula…I wonder what the issue was...

S2 locking tuners - plastic buttons + remove locks?

The low-mass issue, in this context, is mostly marketing. A couple of years ago, PRS switched the tuners on the Core 594s. They went from Gotoh (made in Japan) Phase 3 locking tuners to Han Chang (made in Korea) non-locking tuners. It is about money more than any mass equation. If it was purely...

    Pickup selector switch cover

You are correct, it is for shielding. It is easy to install on the new cover plates. Just purchase a roll of copper shielding tape from a luthier supply shop. It is inexpensive. The tape comes in various widths. You can overlap the tape, as needed, to cover your plate.

    Schaller locking tuners

The SE tuners are made by Han Chang (Korea). The tuner holes may not match Schallers. The best option to go with the SE locking tuners. They function well, lock like the Core tuners, and are cheaper than Schallers. They are definite improvement over the stock SE tuners and are a drop-in...

    Tuner Buttons Phase III Question

Gotoh makes the Phase 3 tuners. You want Gotoh buttons…specifically, LARGE ‘01’ model buttons (smalls are for 6-in-line). They aren’t hard to find…in pot metal. Phase 3s use aluminum buttons to reduce weight - it’s what makes Phase 3 tuners “low mass”. Gotoh lists these buttons as the ‘AB01’...

Pickup Leg Length - varied over time?

PRS only uses short leg pickups, as far as I know. They are limited by the shallow cavity depth in the bridge position on trem models which comprise the bulk of their production. That’s why the height screws are shorter for the bridge pickups. The neck cavities are deeper. The bridge cavity...

Pickup Leg Length - varied over time?

    Always short leg.

Custom 24 Artist finish faded from 'blue matteo' to 'dull grey' in 4 years - options?

Toyota doesn’t use organic dyes that fade upon exposure to UV (even indoor UV). The dude has a point. PRS blues - and any blue-derived finish like violet - fade the fastest. It’s the chemistry of the dye formulation. PRS doesn’t cover fading…they call it “wear and tear”. There are folks with...

how much will the ptc do?

The PTC has stopped a few services, such as routing for a Floyd Rose retrofit. They’ve never done relic or historic makeover work, as far as I know. They used to have a service/price list on the website. It’s best to email customer service for current pricing and services.
