The Official "McCarty 594" Love Thread!!

The neck profile is definitely why. I like a slightly fatter neck anyway (1950s profile) by there is a slight difference with the asymmetrical profile on this. Like you, I love the feel of that neck. It just melts in your hand and is a pretty darn fast neck to fret on.

Looking to buy a 594 - need help

I opted for the SC 594, but I'm an older Les Paul picker. BTW the PRS 594 and Gibby Les Paul are two different critters, other than basic shape. The SC is thicker and heavier, sustains forever, and seems to sound better every time I plug it in. I can't speak to the DC, but I'm guessing the tonal...

    PRS Revalation

I couldn't agree with you more. Over the years Clapton has played Gibsons (LPs, ES-335s), Fender Strats and lord knows what else, through more amps you can think of, and yet he always captures that signature tone. I'm nowhere near Clapton, but I've been playing so long that I always can dial in...

What artists influenced or what prompted you to get PRS gear?

My first PRS (received about a month ago) was not prompted by any artist but happened entirely by chance. I could care less about artist endorsements or getting something a particular artist plays, anyway. So, I was looking through various guitars on Sweetwater's Web site, with an eye towards...

    Nicest forum on the net?

I've only been hanging out here a couple of weeks, after stumbling on it quite by accident. So far, I'm liking what I see and hear, which is more than some forum sites I stopped visiting years ago. And y'all have sure been a welcoming bunch to this old dawg for sure.

    Music theory

I'm one of those old-school guys who just picked up a guitar and started whacking at it back around 1965 or so (do the math, that's more than 50 years ago). I never took lessons or was taught theory to the point I still do not read music or could tell you what scale I'm playing, yet I've...

The Official "McCarty 594" Love Thread!!

Thanks. I kind of figured it was an option or something associated with a different line. Thanks for the clarification.

The Official "McCarty 594" Love Thread!!

I'm new to PRS, so I might be missing something. I've seen a couple of folks say their SC-594 has a "solid rosewood neck", yet the specs I see say the SC-594 necks are solid mahogany (but with a rosewood fretboard). The neck on mine certainly looks like mahogany. I'm guessing a rosewood neck is...

    Best Live Album?

This one is kind of obscure and generally available on on vinyl. No "official" CD versions have ever been released, but you can find bootleg versions out there. "SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST" -- Ted Nugent and The Amboy Dukes. Recording over two nights at a theater in Detroit in 1971. It is raw and...

I'm sure Buddy Whittington is an unknown to many, but he's a Bedford, Texas, boy who toured, recorded and was part of John Mayall's band for ten years. You can find some of his stuff on You Tube under his name -- ZZ Top's "Just Got Back From Baby's" is one of my favorites. BTW -- Buddy is a...

    Thank you.

Hey, Paul -- Having just taken the plunge and buying my first PRS guitar after playing guitar for more than 50 years, all I can say is thank YOU for an incredible instrument. I'm still kicking myself for not doing it sooner.

    PRS Guitar Straps

As an update, I just received a soft, black leather PRS strap and did not have to enlarge the strap holes on this strap. The Dunlop Strap-Loks slipped in easily with no cutting or enlarging of the holes needed.
