I’ve got a 1970s Les Paul that weighs 11 lbs. It was a gift from my dad when I was 14. I am much older now and recently acquired a few PRS DGTs and a PRS Studio.

I much prefer my PRS guitars over the Les Paul that I have.

There are 2 PRS guitars on my short list to acquire in the future:

A Paul’s guitar
A single cutaway 594

I love the PRS guitars I already have. I’d like to have one or two PRS guitars with a fixed bridge to complement my tremolo equipped guitars.

Note: all my current PRS guitars are between 7.7 and 8.25 lbs.

I’m interested in the Paul’s guitar because of the pick ups and the bridge design.

I’m interested in the 594 because of the aesthetics. I like the look of the traditional Les Paul. I’d much prefer to have a Les Paul style guitar made by PRS than get another Gibson.

My question is this: What do you consider to be a good weight for a single cut 594 and why?

My Stripper 58 comes in like 8.3lbs. I looked and looked for a SC PRS. I was set on a 594 and played dozens on dozens. I even ended up buying another Les Paul over a 594 one day. I found very few that moved me. I know its a fan fav. I still look at them and like them, but still haven't bought one. Then one day I found a SC58 and knew right away it was the SC I'd been looking for. Without hesitation I bought it on the spot.

What I liked over the 594 is the pattern neck, 5708 pickups, phase 3 locking tuners, and the control layout. It's everything I've always wanted a Les Paul to be, but better.

After liking the SC58 so much it wasn't long before I got a Tremonti. I've always wanted a singlecut with a trem. It rocks too, a hair heavier at 8.6lbs.

My 24.5" or 24.594" PRS SC's:
Stripped '58: 8.05 lb
S2 594 SC: 7.8
SE245's: 8.8, 8.4, 8.4
The best sounding ones are the Stripper, S2 and the 8.8 lb SE245. They seem to sound more LP-like as they get heavier but anywhere close to the 8 lb range can give you great sounds.

Fortunately my '74 LP is a svelte 10.0

The One That Sounds The Best. :)

Why? Because You Want The Best Sounding/Feeling/Playing Guitar You Can Find. :)
