Good morning! I'm looking at a used SE Starla Stoptail tomorrow that I will most likely purchase and am looking into locking tuners for it. I am aware of the PRS SE locking tuners but am considering those as somewhat of a last resort, as I have preferences for other brands.

I have Gotoh locking tuners on two other SE guitars and like them very much (though they are the vintage/Kluson-style tuners), and was told that this model would be a direct/drop-in replacement on the Starla:

I have another guitar that has Sperzel-style locking tuners from Wilkinson (Guitar Fetish brand) that were installed by the previous owner and I've been very happy with those as well. Does anyone happen to know if these would also be drop-in replacements?

From what I can tell it's the same bushing diameter, though it looks like the actual string hole will sit about 2mm higher than on the Gotoh tuners (not sure if that would be enough to make a noticeable difference on break angle/downward pressure at the nut). The drawing doesn't show dimensions related to the positioning of the screw hole so I can't be 100% certain it will line up with the existing hole on the headstock the same way the Gotohs allegedly do. I would imagine they're probably the same but again can't confirm via the drawing.

Thanks!

The PRS SE lockers are really good and good value. I have a set on my SE 245.

I believe you can get vintage style PRS lockers, so you keep the same footprint on the rear of the headstock (if that’s what you’re looking for).

I should say I also have Gotoh tuners on non PRS guitars and I get why you like them. They’re great for the money.
