I have them uncovered in my 2003 CU24. I believe HFS stands for Hot Fat Screaming & IMHO the shoe fits rather well. These pickups are hot and gutsy, with sustain than can be off the charts which played with OD! A pleasant surprise at least to me was the single coil sound that these pick ups produce. There is some "quackyness" to them and I have used this setting a lot more than I anticipated when I first purchased the guitar
