So I was not in love with the stock pickups. I swapped them out for a set of Zexcoil Tribuckers. I replaced the volume and tone with stacked CTS pots, and replaced the mini toggle with 3-way mini toggles.

I like these pickups a lot more than stock so far. Time will tell how much.

It’s pretty cool having 2 volume, 2 tone, and the choice between noiseless single coil, paf and p90 voicings on each pickup. I’m not sure how perfect the tones are, but they are all usable and in the ball park. Definitely in the spirit of those pickups. It’s making the guitar much more fun and versatile.

If they grow on me, I’m thinking of modding one of my 2 core Starla’s, and routing for a middle pickup and doing a zexcoil HSH setup for my version of a ME-V but with my aesthetic preferences and a bigsby. If they don’t grow on me enough, I’ll keep looking for something to turn one of those Starla’s into my version of an ME-V. :)

I do love the Starla’s.
