I’m gonna have to take your word for it.

First time I ordered grits I made a Yankee mistake and got ‘em plain. It was like going to an Indian restaurant and just ordering rice.

Long gone, that was just the dessert we had the night we had the shrimp and grits at home.

Yeast is considered vegan though, so you can eat dough.

Edit: as long as there aren’t eggs in it.

I have to admit this has been an experience. Sometime between now and tomorrow morning I'll figure out just what it is that I've actually experienced.
However, I did learn something about grits (and I've never eaten them)...I don't think they hold a candle to poi. Poi is a Hawaiian staple and you're supposed to eat it with your fingers. The very best is the two finger poi. You use one finger to put it in your mouth, and another finger to scoop it back out. It is vegan though...
