I recently bought the SE SAS over the CE simply because it has 22 frets....my other 5 s2s are 22 frets....mira, vela. Standard 22s....BUT for the price of the SE CE should I give 24 frets another go?? I just get lost ripping after the 15th fret on 24 frets....is a CE 22 on the way possibly?? Thoughts from the gallery....
Do any of you guys simply gravitate to 22 fret guitars??

I prefer 22 frets. All my PRS guitars have 22 frets. As do my Gibsons. Some of my Fenders have 22 frets too.
I don't like the way the neck pickup sounds when it moves an inch towards to the middle of the guitar to allow room for the 23rd and 24th fret.
It gets thinner sounding.
Not a bad sound. But it's not the sound I grew up with, nor is it the sound of a Les Paul or ES335 or BB King.

CE22's with a vibrato are livlier sounding than CU22's without. At least to me.

Its not the 'extra' frets that appeal to me as I am not really a shredder or 'need' those extra 2 frets enough to really care. Its the different, perhaps 'modern' sound these guitars offer. With a regular Custom 24, 4 out of the 5 sounds are different to a Custom 22 - simply because of a different neck pick-up position relative to the bridge.
22 fret allows for a bigger distance between HB's but also a more 'traditional' distance for the more traditional 'neck' tone. So if you want something 'different' or more 'modern', a Custom 24 may offer that - even if you never need to use the 'extra' frets.
At the end of the day, Guitars all have the same notes (albeit some may have a few more (like 24fret or 7string guitars) so can be used to play the same songs regardless. So its just about whether you 'like' the sound and/or whether it suits the song in the mix alongside the rest of the band. You may prefer the 22 fret neck in isolation for example but find the Cu24 cuts through better in a mix for example.
So for me, it really doesn't matter if it has 21, 22 or 24 frets, I doubt I'll use those extra few notes so it really comes down to expanding the palette of tones. You can collect different styles of guitars - like a LP type, a S-Type or T-type for example to get different tones, but also get different models (like a Cu22 and Cu24) to get different tones too.
I have 2 Cu24s (Regular and Floyd with \m/ pups) and the other 5 are all 22 fret models despite not really using much above the 20th fret for the vast majority of my playing. That's more for different flavours of the 'same' notes/chords to either add my 'own' sound or get closer to the Original recording.

99% of my PRSi are 22 fretters (is that even a word?) I bought my first CU24 recently (ngd thread is due) and I’m not sure how I feel about it yet. It seems to feel stiffer than my 22’s. But yah, I’d say I’m a fan of anything 22 frets.

7/16 are 22 fretters though not in a way by choice. I prefer 24 fretters however having SC trems (not the SE Santana) limited that choice, an S2 Mira, CU-22 and Hollowbody SE round out the 22’s. My fav and all it’s iterations is the CU-24.

Me too. All my PRS are 22 fret, as are my Warmoth guitars and my Warmoth Strat is a hardtail.

22 frets for me. I don't have a PRS yet. I tried and returned an SE Paul's guitar; couldn't bond with the neck.
Nothing good happens above the 20th fret...

What I love about the 24 frets is where it puts my arm when hitting stuff at the 12th fret. A bit further away from my body ;~)) As for the tone, I have never done the side by side comparisons, but I do know that I love all of my PRSi (one 594 HBII and two CU24's)! So for me, I would always choose the 24 fret models when all other factors are equal!!

22 is more natural and I like the tone of the neck pickup better but 24 is great for hand position and it gives some different sounds.
