They do higher gain extremely well but I'm amazed how they sound with vol pot rolled down a bit in all positions. When I was using my 94 5150 head those dragon 1s sounded pretty good but I had both pickups set pretty low in the rings. I'm living in a cleaner world tone wise these days and my D1 guitar doesn't see much use the way it is currently set up.
