As a relative newbie to the guitar playing world I am still learning chords. In doing so, I am finding some great sounding chords that I plan to incorporate in to future song writing efforts.

What are your favorite sounding chords? (I am hoping to find some hidden gems from you more experienced players)

My top 5 (to my ear) right now are …

1) Dsus2
2) Cadd9
3) Em9
4) Em
5) A

Honorable mention: Dm

In no particular order I tend to gravitate to

Amaj9/C# voiced low to high as C# A B E G#

Amaj9 voiced low to high as A E A B G#

C# half diminished as a substitution for A7 that forms a composite of A9

Am11 voiced low to high as A G C D

A9 voiced low to high as G B C# A which you can move the C# up a half step with your index finger for A9sus

And a bonus is A7b9b13 voiced low to high as A G C# F Bb

For Me...My Go To's Are The Open Low E String And Any Power Chords On The Wound Strings And Once In A While An Unwound String Pops In There. For The Most Part, Unwound Strings Are Practically Dead To Me.

If I Want To Get Real Fancy I Will Pick Individual Notes On The Wound Strings.

If I Want To Get Really Fancy I Will Play Some Cmaj9, Cmin9, Csus2, Csus4, Cmaj7, Cmajor/add 9, and Cmin13th chords.

i can tell you my worst: A. i can never get the correct finger pressure to intonate properly. weird

For me its less about chords and more about chord progressions. Imho diminished chords are way too much neglected to get some nice tension and resolve it later on
