Your Thoughts On A Trade....McCarty For Ce22

I'm thinking of trading a very nice McCarty(non 10 top, McCarty Burst...nice flame top, moon inlays) for a CE22 with Maple top (ironically in McCarty Burst, a little less flame than my McCarty, mint shape). Both are about the same age. Reason I'm thinking about it is that I prefer the feel of a tremolo over a tailpiece and when I play live I sweat a bit and finished necks get real sticky to me...

My big concern is value..Yes I know that the value of a CE is less than a McCarty..but by the looks of ebay only maybe $100-$200?? If that. I really want the unfinished neck and I kinda like the sound of the CE a bit better.. I guess my question is this...

Do you guys thing the CE will go up in value over time since it's discontinued? I was thinking, it's like the only PRS I can think of that sold well that they discontinued. Or at least didn't reintroduce. I think as far as gigging the CE would be better, but I trade a lot and don't want to lose my butt...What do you guys think? Do you think the value difference for what I want is sufficient enough or will I lose my pants over time too much?

THANKS!

Yeah, I wouldn't concern yourself too much with "value". If you prefer the CE to the McCarty and its what you want, then it is a worthwhile trade...

Pics???

I would love to get you pics, but every time I try to post something from Flickr or Photobucket all it does it show the link! Argh!

You guys think the value loss wouldn't be too bad?

If you're talking about 100-200 then I would go for it. Having the guitar that you like more will be worth it.

Any chance he is willing to add a little $ in the trade?

Nope, I approached him. I actually traded him this guitar last year. He's a drummer who wanted a guitar. Long story short, he's only played it a few times. As far as CE's go its a super nice one.

Why haven't we seen any pics of either guitars? I say show the guitar porn...just sayin

No. Great guitars, but nothing special about them.

If you like the guitar, go for it. Any difference in value is negligible. Maybe a difference in condition may close the gap. If all else fails, ask for some drum lessons...or have him bake you come cookies. If thing is in really nice shape, that for me would be enough to seal the deal. You never mentioned the condition of your McCarty, but by "nice" I'm gonna assume not in "players condition", just gently used. I think it's in the realm of possibility on ebay for a like-new CE to go at or slightly above a "some nicks here and there" --played McCarty. If you sold yours to BUY a CE, with commissions, you might even be in the hole.

Call it a wash and enjoy the new guitar, CE's are really great guitars!

In Flickr just right click on the image (You may have to choose a size first) , choose 'properties' and copy the address (URL) that comes up. When making your reply on here click on the image icon in the reply box (The one to the left of the video icon and speech bubble) and paste the address into there. The address will probably end '.jpg'.

The correct tags should come up in Photobucket. You want the '

I'd say if you're a player and not a collector go for it because it's something you have to enjoy, not have as a piece on a wall or music room that costs more than some homes.

I agree with everyone. The value difference isn't really enough to quibble over - since you know you like the CE better.
One question though...if it weren't based on feel, which tone do you prefer? You could sand the gloss off(or have someone do it), I know a few people that do this.

Yeah! I did it! I got a picture to upload! Thanks Mikegarveyblues! Ok, here is the CE

And here is the McCarty

As you can see, a little redundant except for the obvious. Both are in great shape..Id say the McCarty has a bit more wear, but not much wear at all. No dings or scratches on either one. The McCarty has a few surface scratches on the back that you can see in the right light. Thanks for every ones advice and thoughts. I think personally (from cruising ebay and other sites)the CE is worth 1200ish (which is a mint shape CE with a decent top) and the McCarty maybe 1300-1400ish. I've had several PRS guitars over the years and when I play live I have to keep some baby powder handy because the necks get sticky to me once I start sweating, that's why I was thinking about a CE. Unfinished neck would be very beneficial to me when gigging. The thought of having the finish removed from a guitar neck feels disrespectful! lol. I hate the thought of ruining the guitar for me! I'm not someone who holds onto guitars very long because I have a untreatable form of G.A.S. It's very bad. But I'm trying! I would love to have a guitar for years and years and be the only guy who sweat on it, but that sounds like another story for another thread!

Looking back on the original post from me on here, it reads like someone trying to persuade opinion for the CE..which tells me I robably didn't need to ost this!lol. BUT, I REALLY appreciate all the input. I'm going for it.

I like both! A LOT! Such a common problem we run into as guitarists...one...the other...why can't BOTH just be the option all the time!!!

Congrats!

No kidding! That's the problem with bad G.A.S. - you gotta give one up to get one! Now that I have this home I feel better about it. The CE is a good working mans guitar.

No brainer, the guitars look almost the same. You will be happier with it. Cost difference is small.
Rare to see a CE nowadays in that condition and color.

Well, I went ahead and swapped him, got it all set up and am thrilled that I did it. Plays so much better than the McCarty and it's a 9.9 out of 10. Found 1 tiny ding, and not scratches. Not even pick scratches. All the case candy still there too. Thanks for all the input...I feel a NGD post comin on! lol

Talking about GAS and trades... Just saw your ex-McCarty pop up for sale online. I still think you made a good deal considering the condition and how much you seem to like it.

You should treat it as a keeper for a while :)
