Wow, has this guy ever been into a studio?

It's always interesting to discover that even the best are truly human. ;)

For sure. I can't count how many times I've tried to get something perfect and tossed them out because of these same type of things, but somehow they left them in and ended up with a classic song and performance.

I did some work on a Beyonce remix two years ago and was astounded by the semi-pro-ness quality of the raw tracks and stems we were working with.... her voice on the other hand was f@ckin incredible, warts and all.

I remember the old standby of, "don't worry we'll fix it in the mix", but these days do they just edit out the extra sounds? I'm thinking that some of those extra sounds may have added something to a song.

Wasn't it Beck who's breakthrough first album was recorded in an apartment? The fact you could hear his neighbors screaming 'turn it down' in the background was a huge part of the charm of the record.

I'll have to find that one MOBirds. I loved finding the odd background noise on a recording, don't know why it just was something cool or made the recordings more "real". Like Jagger exclaiming "woo!" after Merry Clayton's voice cracks on Gimme Shelter.

I always thought she had a great sounding voice but kind of screams her vocals a bit. Was her voice that good live?

Well it was just the raw recorded vocal tracks from "End of Time" so there were some pops and clicks here and there and you could hear her head moving.... but her overall performance was the real deal. That woman can really, really, really sing!
