The worst sale was of my own making. In 1983 bought a new Les Paul pre-historic. I
kept it for over 10 years. I got on a strat kick and sold it.
This leads me to my worst purchase and on the same day as I sold the Les Paul. I
bought a new Fender SRV Stratocaster. It turned out to be garbage. The neck developed
a back bow. I would adjust it and in day or two it was back. It was a lemon.
Looking back at that day all I can say is what a debacle.
I have been through a bunch of Les Paul's since then. A few historics and few others. I
just could not replace the Pre-historic. It was that good.
It was the first Les Paul I ever bought or even played. I was naive. I just did not know what I had.
I try not to dwell on it because it's enough to make me sick.
I remember almost everything about that LP because I played it for over 10 years several times a week.
Many hours for sure.
This year I bought my USA Santana. While it's not like the Les Paul it's attributes reminds me of that old guitar.
That's important to me.
Great neck, not very heavy. Loved the neck pickup on both. The sustain is awesome on both. The
Santana plays better though. It's a great guitar. Easy on the eyes too.
This may sound dramatic but I feel like I finally found my replacement 32 years later. These days I don't think
I would want a Les Paul.
My best purchase was a 1959 Melody Maker several years ago for 500 bucks. Old slab of mahogany with a brazilian
rosewood fret board.
It was already modded. I have a humbucker in it now. It sent a few of my other Gibson's packing.
I could say my Santana was my best purchase as well. But the price I got my Melody Maker for is a great
bang for my buck.
