Can I be the only one who does not care for these tuners? The newer models are so much easier to use. I moan and groan evertime I have to use them. Wanted to look at the pickups when I first got the guitar after I put a new set of strings on it. Try and get those same strings back on it after removing the pickups, just to identify them. I tend not to throw things, but geez.

I can honesty say that the winged tuners are by far the best tuners PRS have produced YMMV. While I agree that technically the Phase II / III should mean quicker string changes, I find that I'm actually faster on "winged" tuners then either of the other two. I also think they look classier (they match the sweep of the headstock and look far better than that stupid black thumbscrew on silver posts IMHO).

If it didn't require drilling into the headstocks I would certainly swap the tuners on both my 06 CE24 Mahogany and my 15 McCarty. I will be honest and say that the black thumbscrew on silver shafts look cheap (to me), maybe replacing the thunbscrews with silver ones off the SS may help.

Once I got used to them, they became my favourite. I wish all my guitars had them. Couple of hints:

1 - When taking off old strings, first detune them fully loose so the part of the string locked in the tuner lines up with the neck before loosening the collar. This makes it a bit easier to line up the new string in the gap.
2 - When putting on the new string, pull on it to keep it tight when the cam locks it in, this way you collars will be at a reasonable angle for step 3.
3 - Once the string is locked in and before it is full tension, push the wing of the collar upwards to lock it into place.

Once I got used to the process, I found I could change strings on the PRS in half the time of other guitars.

I’ve got a set in trying to sell from my ‘99 custom 22. Mine are different than most I’ve seen in that they have the same screw alignment of phase II tuners but are the winged style
