Howdy folks,I'm new here(not new to guitar),I have a question:is it possible to put a single coil in the middle slot of a NF3(ala the Mason model)?I'm currently looking at a pretty good deal on an NF3,and I'd like to know if that's possible.I just read another forum on someone wanting to mod/split narrowfields, which isn't exactly what I'm asking.Really, the issue I'm trying to solve is:I just played an NF3 and an SC3.I love them both.I can't afford them both.Your ideas appreciated.

You can always get a custom guard made to fit the middle SC pickup. You can have Terrapin or some other pickguard maker do it vs. the PTC since it doesn't require any routing or anything aside from the pickup change.

Or the PTC can do it; they do a remarkable job with their workmanship, and their setups are the very best I've ever had.

Welcome!

A custom guard would do it, but be sure you try that NF3 there first - it's an amazing pickup. The ones in my Studio are becoming my favorite neck/middle pickups of all time, and I've played a metric ton of strats.

Yeah,I'm definitely in the 'played a metric ton of strats category.I love the SSH ones in particular.I played an NF3 today.Loooved the neck, intonation, positions 2&4and neck positions.Didn't quite care for the bridge.Would it be possible to put a 408 there (later)without too much fuss? Thanks for the help.

The PTC can easily put a 408 in there (they put 3 of them in a DC3 for me), but if that's your end goal, why not save a wee bit more dough and wait until the right Brent Mason comes up?

Yes indeed. The Brent Mason is very high on my list.Do you know anywhere near the DFW area that might have one I could try?'Banjo Barn' is having a tiff with PRS and my options around here are a bit limited for test drives.
