'wiggly' replacement tuner buttons

Hi folks, I recently changed out the metal tuner buttons on my mira. The guitar has phase 2 tuners, so I chose some ebony schaller mini m6 buttons, having done a fair hunt to check what would/wouldn't likely be a good fit with the phase 2's.

Now that I've changed them over, I'm finding that there's a bit of wiggle in the buttons, like theres a few millimeters of wiggle before the string then changes tension when turning.

The're wiggle before even screwing them in, but I figured when tightening that it would reduce.

Going too tight on the screws however means that the tuning pegs then become unreasonably stiff.

Is there a trick to getting them to fit snugly?

Thanks in advance, Dan

They are the wrong buttons

When I was fitting buttons to my S2 10th anniversary with the low mass Tuners
I found that the buttons I first got did not fit and I got the same "wiggle"
I had to try a few other sets and finally got the correct set
Try a different set of buttons

(FYI hip shot buttons fit the PRS low mass tuners)

With string tension on, tighten the loose ones a tiny bit at a time (we're talking like 1/16 of a turn) until they feel good and don't slip. If they're too tight, do that in reverse. Hold the button in one hand to keep it from turning.
Thanks folks, yeah, I tried the above and it helps, but there's still slippage.
Did you get all of those tiny washers back in the right order?
Truth be told I hadn't even checked that, but now, yeah, a couple had stuck to the previous buttons, but again, there's still some wiggle in there.

Much better after both of those, for sure, but some remains.

I don't think the s2's and phase 2's are an exact match. I think either way, since I can't buy prs phase2 buttons now, there may be some wiggle either way?

They arent
but the point is only the correct buttons will fit without wiggle

I posted exactly which ones I had experience with as a matter of reference
but having experienced the wiggle and the correct fit
I advise you to try some different buttons

Ive had that problem with other tuners before, and solved the problem with very thin shim material. I put it on the flat side of the post and slid the button on. I forget the thickness I used, but very thin flexible plastic has served well in such applications.

Thanks for this. Confirms the comments above. Since the tuners have the etched look, not embossed look, they're gotoh tuners.

Time to go looking again!
The EN01 is Gotoh's large ebony button. Unfortunately, I've never seen them available separately.

I do know, the PRS Phase III ebony buttons will work on Gotoh tuners as well.
Wouldn't surprise me, if they are in fact, repackaged Gotoh EN01 knobs.

I did find these on Ebay, so might take a shot...

FY, those are the smaller EN07 buttons...

Hey, yeah, that was my aim, I had gotten the mini schaller's too in part because the originals were mini (now I know they're gotoh, likely the standard 07's) but also as i tried both the bigger and mini schallers for fit comparison.

The bigger buttons on the mira are a real close overlap with the headstock, so assumed the same could be true of the bigger gotoh buttons.

Thanks for the table though, yet another valuable reference, thanks!

While I think about it however, would the en01 should be fine on the phase 3's you mentioned, right?
