When I hit the 'new posts' tab I only get some of the newest posts and miss a lot, I have to go to the 'what's new' tab and search that way. Is this new or am I only one seeing this? I used to get a complete list of everything posted since my last visit.

This has been happening to me for months and driving me crazy! I even started a thread about it, but since it was posted in General Discussion... Very few people saw it and were able to reply and I can't find it now.

The other thing is that it seems to be effecting everything in the "General Forum" areas... There are even threads that won't show up for me that I started and know the complete title to when I search them. At first I thought it was a problem with my account until a few people mentioned the same thing was happening to them, I believe it was Coery T. that said that he believed something was turned "off" that is causing it... I've been using the activity stream to see what's happening and I've been posting random sh!t under "electric instruments" just to be able to find it.

Yep, it effects all sub forums under this main section.

A switch needs to be flipped to turn that area on so it shows up under the new posts link.

Yes, it is very hard to find your old threads too if posted under the General section here, so I too have put some in the electric section since those show up under my profile when I search for all threads started by me.

So I need to have a forum administrator flip a switch for me?

The administrator can also set up the forums so that each thread you read is marked in the database. If this option is set, then new threads (or threads with new posts) will not be marked as read until you have actually read them.

The setting actually is to allow the sections to be put under the search engine.
When that setting is selected in the admin control panel, it allows those sections to be searchable using both the search feature, and also the "New Posts" feature.

At least it is that way with my VB forum, but I am running older VB software than the site here.
Here is an example from the "Forum Manager" in the admin panel from my forum I run.
Under the forum manager is where you set the settings for each individual section, and you can select to allow the section to show up under "New Posts" or when using the forums own search engine.
Index New Posts in Search Engine (Setting this to 'No' will prevent anyone from being able to search in this forum)
Yes No
I have a feeling it got turned off on this site accidentally for the General section which I linked too in this thread earlier.
It is only turned off here for those sub forums including this one which fall under the General category.

I usually just click the breadcrumb trail under the tab that says NEW POSTS (I click on the word FORUM at the root level of the breadcrumb trail) and then click on each category headding one at a time and then look for the little green << icon in each for subjects I've posted to previously. It's kind of a headache but it works. The best web board software I've seen is the IP Board like they have over on the HeritageOwnersClub.com forum. That one is VERY easy to use.
