Why does my S2 Singlecut NOT stay in tune.

It is about six weeks old. It seems that every time I pick it up...day to day...it is out of tune.

All strings equally de-tuned almost a half tone.

I know we are changing seasons, but I don't think my room is changing temperature or humidity that drastically, although I do notice sometimes it is a little chilly or warm depending on how much sun is shining outside.

I put a little graphite in the nut slots, but there is no relief there.

Let me know what you think, thanks.

I live in RI, during this season some of my previous guitar were so finnicky they had to be retuned daily with minor neck tweaks and some didn't. Every piece of wood is different, by far the worst offenders of this have been unfinished maple but I had a few LP's and old Charvels with finished necks that were a pain.

I don't understand...you're upset because you have to..tune the guitar?:violin:

All my guitars are out of tune when I pick them up - well, maybe mostly in tune with themselves, but not the rest of the world. No biggie.

If they go too far out of tune while playing (and keep doing it after a small, second tune-up), maybe there's something up. But otherwise; don't worry about it.

If you're putting it back into the gig bag each time you use it that may be the problem.

The G farce tuners can't possibly work. The guitar is not a tempered instrument. I've never had any guitar stay in tune when I used a gig bag. No biggie. Les sez.......Tune it!

No complaints...just an observation. It sits in a stand along side another guitar that does not suffer from the same tuning issues, although it is not a fair comparison, as it has a locking nut.

Oh well, no biggey.

It sounds like the guitar is more or less in tune with itself, is that right?

Have you tried just playing it for maybe 5-10 minutes, and THEN checking the tuning? I find that usually that levels it out pretty much. Half a step is quite a bit though... :-)

I've found when they are cold they will tend to go flat but never had one go half a step flat. Usually as I play and the neck warms up they end up sharp because I retuned them lol. If all strings are going out of tune then it's just something with the guitar acclimating and shouldn't indicate an issue. In 6 weeks going from a store or a warehouse to a home it's probably still settling in. Could be strings I guess as well. I put some nyxl's on the 3 main guitars here and they aren't joking when they claim increasing tuning stability... I tune with a sonic research strobe tuner and that thing is super sensitive. I haven't done anything other than the slightest tweaks to get the guitars in tune for weeks now, to a chromatic tuner they are right on the money day in and day out.

Yes, it is kinda in tune with itself, and I apologize, as my original post is incorrect...what I meant to say is that the strings tend to fall flat, but not a semi-tone, but more like falling in between 430 and 440 on the scale. Sitting very close to 430. So that is not really that bad, but hey I kinda expect this summer when the weather levels out, all should be fine. It has the locking tuners on it, so I guess I expected more stability. No biggie.

I think what you are seeing is pretty reasonable.

Yes, I agree..I am just used to the guitar with the locking nut and sort of thought locking tuners might produce the same stability.

It's cool.
