Why are Paul Reed Smith's nuts so ugly?

LOL!!!!

Seriously, why are the nuts so big and clunky looking? I own two PRS (Custom 24 USA & a Stripped 58) I was discussing this with a few guys on a facebook group. A couple guys are saying it affects the resonance/tone of the guitar but I find that hard to believe. Why $1000s into a guitar and ignore the one thing that looks horrible on the guitar for no good reason?

Happy New Year.

Why do you find it hard to believe it affects the resonance/tone? The material and amount surface area that the string contacts the nut would certainly affect the tone in my opinion.

I should have worded that:"Hard to believe that PRS would design a nut that negatively affected tone" I see Gibson is using brass/metal nuts now...

I have zero issues with PRS' nuts. I think they look better than most manufacturer's nuts and more importantly perform better, resulting in a better guitar. Great thread!

I like Paul's American nuts. The Korean nuts don't thrill me so I usually get Skitchy to put his special nuts on my SE's.

The 513 (and early 305) nuts were quite attractive.

As the punchline goes.. I used to think you were crazy but I can clearly see your nuts.

I agree about the 513 nut. Very smooth and attractive. There's really nothing like it. Breathtaking, really.

I think The PRS nut looks cool, works great too.The new Gibson brass zero fret nut looks cool too imo.Anyone with a 2015 Gibson,I'm curious?
