Who's your top 5 favorite Guitarists?

There is no way I could narrow to 5.

Prince, John Mayer, Steve Lukather, Eddie van Halen, Mike Campbell, Mike Scott, Joe Satriani, SRV, Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Mark Knopfler, Jude Cole, Jake E. Lee, Brian May, James Hetfield and Kirk Hammett, Don Felder and Joe Walsh, Slash. I could go on if I spent time on it.

Just because you mentioned SRV, there was a book released in August by a couple of GW guys (Andy Aledort and?) about SRV. It’s called Texas Flood, and is outstanding. It’s very anecdotal with interviews of people that were around him. Can’t recommend it enough.

Paul Gilbert
Joe Satriani
Stevie Ray Vaughan
Buckethead
Brad Paisley
John Mayer
Alex Lifeson
Adam Jones

Okay, that was more than five, but I couldn't trim it down anymore!

So, who is on your top 5 top guitarists? Lets keep it friendly girls and boys. No bashing the other members just because they don't like Fred Durst or Orianthi. Please include the band as well, Thanks!

My top 5 as follows:

David Gillmour - Pink Floyd
Steve Rothery - Marillion
Brian May - Queen
Alex Lifeson - Rush
Neal Geraldo - Pat Benetar
I would say all the British ones mentioned USA ,Tom Schultz Trevor Rabin, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Richie C (blue oyster cult) &
ELLIOT TRUMP unfortunately none of them play PRS guitars! Why?

It's so hard to pick only 5...
  1. Adam jones
  2. Slash
  3. EVH
  4. Hetfiled
  5. Angus / malcolm
I also have to mention: Iommi, Page, Morello, Gilmour, Knopfler, Gallagher, Hendrix, Satch, Gibbons, Dimebag, Holiday, Wilson, Tremonti, May, the edge...

So top 20 would be easier :D

In no particular order:
Pat Metheny
John Scofield
John McLaughlin
Lee Ritenour
Wes
Eric
Jimi
………...plus many more!

Let’s not forget the unsung heroes:

Keith Scott (Bryan Adams), although I think he may have been mentioned.

Dominic Miller (Sting)

Steve Van Zandt (Bruce Springsteen)

Jeff Baxter and Denny Dias (Steeley Dan)

All these guys rock my world, I could go on, but you get the picture.

Where do you start! Most of mine have been covered already. So Randy Rhoads as I've not seen him listed just because of this:
