A few years back I finally counted and could no longer ignore that it had crept into 3 figures. I have sold a bunch since, but still aim to cut back a net of 12 more in 2017.

I have an obscene number of guitars for a bedroom shredder. But I have started on the road to recovery, thinning the herd every year by 3-4 guitars. At this rate I should be in double digits by 2020...

    I don't smoke. I don't do drugs. I rarely drink.

I spend my money on music, DVDs and reading material.

I don't consider any of my collections obscene. My wife's opinion...doesn't matter. Because she's not reading this.

Well, I used to play more and had a few more guitars than I do right now. The "more guitars at one time" record for me was 15.

With 2 young children in the house and a demanding job, I only play sometimes at night with headphones through my Eleven Rack.
My amp is in the warehouse to make room for the kids (and protect it from their curiosity), and rarely comes out when I have the time to go to a friend's house to jam.
I could do with only one electric nowadays, so I guess I have too many for my current needs, but don't plan (or want) to let some more go.
If I had to choose, I would only keep the 513 or the S2120x.
    The current list is:

    PRS Custom (1992)
    PRS 513 BRW (2005)
    Ibanez S2120x (2002 with piezo)
Ibanez RG550 (1990 had it since new, my main guitar for many years)
    Ibanez RG7620 (1998 7 string)
Ibanez Custom Petrucci inspired 7 string build (still in progress and unfinished)
Fender Stratocaster (1986 Japan with original Kahler trem.)
    Ibanez RD707 Bass (1989)

I don't know how many guitars I have. I'd have to think about it. Hmm...

1...2...3...4...Uh...I wonder if dealers have posted their new inventory today. Let's find out!!!

I definitely have a problem. I just bought two of the same guitar, one on Saturday, the other on Sunday. A bit of an explanation: I found out Guitar Center had <brand and guitar from non-PRS manufacturer redacted> on clearance, so I went and got it on Saturday. Was talking with the guy about Brian Setzer guitars, and decided to check out the inventory online, and while I was there, plugged in the nomenclature for the one I just bought (always a mistake). Well, a used one of the non-boringly-coloured red one came up, so on Sunday, I took the one I bought on Saturday with the receipt, with the intention of returning it. Well, I realized while I was there that the one I bought on Saturday was satin, and the one I was considering was gloss, so I bought the second one without returning the first one.

If I start to sell one guitar every month I'll reach double digits sometime in 2026. That's how stupid I am.

This thread would be way more fun with pics!! If you have a picture of a stack of cases or guitars out on display or anything else that has to do with your "obscene" collection I'm sure a bunch of us would enjoy seeing them.

I had a lot more before I became a dealer. Oddly enough my Gear Acquisition Syndrome has died down a lot. Sometimes I still order guitars for myself but I play them for like 10 minutes and then end up selling them. -_-

Anyone remember a guy on TGP (which was originally the PRS Forum) with the handle "Santana Brazilian"?

As I recall it: The guy had a museum-quality collection of the really exotic PRSii, and illuminated museum cases in a wing of his house to display them.

    I remember thinking, there's me, there's us, and there's ... him.

I have 10 electrics. Of those 10, 4 are keepers; the other 6 are cheaper guitars from my younger, poorer days.

My core CU24 has been my #1 since I bought it 3 years ago.

My next phase, which may happen tomorrow, is to sell/trade the 6 axes that are never played, and get something nice THAT I WILL PLAY!

I was going to have a Hollowbody 2 made to memorialize my daughter, but the dealer that I was told to go through really turned me off. I went a different direction, but now that I have met Dave and his crew from Seaford Music, I might revisit the idea of a private stock.

If someone were to give me a McCarty 594 Singlecut, I'd give them a 50 watt HXDA head and then I'd have an even MORE obscene number of guitars in my collection. ;)

It looks like 28 electrics if I didn't miscount, 3 acoustics, a mandolin, and a set of bagpipes. Quite a few are research projects. Every time that I mention selling one, you guys always go for the good ones.

IIRC (and I don't guarantee that), I believe it was VintageRocker. I can't check right now, because VR is blocked for me at work.
