Who all also plays a 12 string?

Ebony is harder.

It will actually be my first guitar that has a fretboard other than ebony. GIbson and Taylor of the past, ebony. Taylor, Breedlove, and two PRS's now, ebony. And I never seen my fretboards dinged up like the guitars of others made of other stuff.

I have a PRS with a katalox fretboard. It sounds very different from ebony, rosewood or maple. My sonic memory is pretty good, but I can’t imagine what purple heart would sound like.

I have a Knaggs Kenai with a solid purple heart neck. Sounds good.

I’m also familiar with Katalox Aka Mexican ebony (although not a true ebony). I bought a rare fiddleback finger board blank at NAMM a few years ago.

Well we like it. For a $330 guitar it actually sounds quite nice and feels good to play. My 1st 12-string. The fat low-E unfortunately sharp at the fretted 12th, would've been nice if it was more perfect all the way up the neck. Keeping it because I'm sure it can make some sweet sounding 12-string cowboy chord tracks. Just kinda have to avoid the fretted fat low-E too far up the neck. I suppose I could try taking a file to the saddle but not confident in myself doing that.

Glad to hear you like it, I was same way. For the price, it's actually pretty impressive. I have just barely sharp on one string as well, don't remember offhand which. I just left it as I'm mostly playing open chords or maybe alternate w/capo up to 5th fret. So far, doesn't sound off to me.

I would take the guitar to a luthier and have him/her look at it. It's probably just something really simple like you said and they might just tweak it a little and make it a whole lot better all around. My local friend and former work associate has done some pretty amazing things with just about all my guitars at one time or another. Even an old one that I thought was a basket case. And given the incredible price point of these machines a few extra bucks wont' break the bank either.

Yea, I wasn't exactly planning to be a Jerry Garcia noodler on the thing, and it sounds pretty awesome just the way there's twice the string power. First time playing on a 12-String and it seems to help me be content playing simple stuff. Like it gives me the illusion that I'm more than a solo player of rhythm guitar just because 4 strings have octaves and the highest 2 are doubled up..

I might look into it if it bothers me. It mostly won't because I have a few other guitars that are more perfect for playing that far up the neck. It makes a nice pretty and full sound with just full chord strumming and fingerpicking, helping to simplify things and enjoy fundamental sound of the most traditional chord changes.

Like others have said, songs for 12-strings is a bit of a limited niche. But for the right songs, nothing replaces the chiming sound! No wanting to spend a fortune for one, I ended up getting a Taylor 150e for right at US $1000. Having smaller hands and short fingers, I found the Taylors to be the easiest to play. I lowered the action a bit and put extra light strings on it and can now play for well over 10 minutes!!

I watch YT videos from a site called “8 Minute Axe”. Mark Ranalli specializes in 12-string videos and has given me a lot of tips and ideas to use.

But as they say: 50% of the time playing a 12-string is tuning it, the other 50% is playing it out of tune! 🤪

Guild F2512E
Taylor 552 CE

The Guild actually sounds better, the Taylor is easy to play.
Like others, I run out of 12 string ideas quickly, play 6 strings more.

Actually, my S12 is very stable that way, it's one of the brand's strong points and part of the reason I chose it over some others, along with the ease of play. It's actually less effort in some ways than my S6 is. Although, if it ever is off at all, it certainly shows up in no uncertain terms!😱

I've got a 2014 Ric 360/12. (And a 2014 360/6.) Love 'em.
