Who all also plays a 12 string?

Me too.

OTOH it had the providential effect of pushing me in another direction, starting me on a thirty-years-and-counting journey with baritones :)
I did 15 years of seven string guitars. Been there.

Currently started rolling my wife to get myself a Taylor 514 or 714 legacy grand auditorium for my March bday. So polar opposite lol

Never played one before and considering buying a cheap 12-string. Perhaps choosing between the Ibanez AEG5012 and the D'Angelico Premier Fulton LS.

Anyone experienced these?
What I ended up buying, as noted in my last post, was an Ibanez AEG5012. I like the way it plays and sounds, the only issue I found was of the 2 that were at the store, one had intonation off just a bit on B & E string pairs. The one I grabbed was much closer to perfect. With a 12, adjustments to that are a royal pain. So I would say watch out for that on any lower end guitar as most places won't adjust without additional charge, and a high one at that.

Thank you. Missed that. 😆 Kinda unsure about deciding between that low end Ibanez 12 or the low end D'Angelico 12.

Was just talking to Sweetwater about it and they clarified for me with Ibanez, who updated their website specs, that the fretboard and bridge are in fact Purpleheart and not Laurel as previously stated.

Would you say the Ibanez neck is kinda 'fast' for a 12 string acoustic? I see it's got the smaller nut width. Thinking I'd like that one more. Bad intonation would of course be a nightmare though.

Haven't played those, but have played the cheapest Taylor 12 and Martin 12, which are made with wood laminates for back and sides. Both sounded great and had good intonation. Both very playable.

I don't know I'd call any 12 string "fast". But it is what I'd call a standard Ibanez carve, but a bit wider being 12 string. So if you take a wide-thin Ibanez and widen it for 12, that's about the feel. I think that's what drew me to it, it just felt comfortable. If you get it through Sweetwater, I'd expect they'd be sure the intonation is set. I picked mine up at a GC while my son was taking lessons there. They refused to adjust without a double set up cost, which was almost as much as the guitar itself.

My only 12 string:

“How does it play?” 🤷🏼

“How does it sound?” 🤷🏼

🫣

I count 18.

I bought a 12 string specifically for Christmas music. I don’t play it the rest of the year and my aging fingers have a harder time adapting every December. Specifically, bar chords are out. For me, it works best with simpler chord form.

I did get a 9 string, which is much easier to play. D, G, and B are doubled.

Check out Doyle Dykes 12-string Christmas Medley on the 12-string. An old Fender Villager 12-string. Not a country guy myself, but I love Doyle.

Hans to the White Courtesy Phone...

I have one of the old CU-22/12s that PRS did a while back. Great guitar!

That's beautiful. I was eyeing a Blue Matteo one from 2005 on Reverb, and I was getting pretty close to pulling the trigger and it sold. I have two OLP Electrics (Offshore MusicMan Licensed copies), which are surprisingly good guitars (One is a doubleneck, the other is just a 12-string on an Axis/EVH body.) Both have low action at full pitch up and down the neck, but I did have to shim the necks on the doubleneck to get there. But to have a PRS, that would be wonderful as long as it could keep good action across the neck at full pitch.

Purple Heart is an incredibly hard wood. I’d love to hear what one of those sounds like!

I saw Cheap Trick last night. Lots of 12 strings. At a point, four were being used at the same time. The bass player uses a 12 string bass (I had forgotten about that). Rick played a few, the singer often played a Tele 12. The second guitarist/vocalist played a hollow body 12. It was a pretty good show.
