Which soapbar / p90 are you currently using in your PRS? I need p90 advice

I totally enjoyed the Lollar P90's a dude had in his guitar. Totally different from the P90's in my guitars and way nicer sounding than the Seymour Duncan "hot" I think, P90's in a semi solid tele signature model I played - the SD's were noisy too.

Maybe consider RWRP neck pickup for noise cancelling in the middle pickup switch position. That should also produce a slightly more mellow sound.

I would think that the stock PRS ones should sound good. Possibly mess around with them to adjust the height, lower them, etc. I know it can be difficult to adjust the height on P90's and it takes some innovating. It is also possible to twist off those wood screws that you use for adjustment when lowering the pickups. A really great guitar tech could probably work wonders adjusting those stock pickups. I'd start there. The G P90's are the original ones and a classic type current production set is found by many to sound great.

Good luck with your tone quest.

I've been floored even by the stock P90s in my Soapy II. A little dirty, but that's the legacy. I'd love to hear some humbucking versions, tho. Either way, P90 and mahogany get me every time.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned gibson P90's. A lot of people, and i mean a LOT prefer stock gibson P90's to anything else at any price. I have a LP special with the stock P90's and the sound fantastic. When i got it tho, as good as they were i figured stock pickups can't be as good as boutiques. So i ordered a set of harmonic designs. I sold them immediately. The gibsons slayed them with ease, not even close. I'm still debating whether to sell my LP and get a SE soapbar. (i've become a total PRS fanatic) But if i do decide to go thru with that, if the stock pups seem less than spectacular you can bet the 1st and probably last replacements i try will be gibson.

I think I mentioned those Gibson ones in a post. They definitely are supposed to be great pickups.

Also, I personally would hold onto that Gibson. They don't make that style that you have of a "special" anymore. Man I wish I could get my hands on one. Does yours have neck binding? Those are nice.

Of course it would be a great idea too get a P90 PRS, absolutely. Maybe you could switch pickups. But I suppose those PRS P90's are real good sounding.

I have three PRS guitars and am planning on getting another one very soon.

Yeah, it has binding and tulip tuners. One of the GC special runs between i think 2010 and 2012. Some has baked maple boards, i got a rosewood one. I'd never have bought the baked maple one. But yeah, i should probably hold onto it. Maybe what i'll do is buy a soapbar SE at GC and see what i think during the 30 day return period and if i realize i will like it much more than the gibson, sell the special. But try the gibson pups in the soapbar first so i know whether i should buy a set for it. I do still like that special, but the SE's are just so d@mn amazing i really think if i had both to compare i'd likely want to sell the gibson.

Hard to see the color in this pic, but heres my special

I dig the Soaps in my McCarty Braz/Korina NOS 2007 guitar.

That said I've entertained the idea of Fralin hum cancelling ones - those would be the only pups I'd think of swapping to.

You seem to be securely rock locked in on your's. Only two actual options. This would speak to me highly of the quality of the "Soaps" in the "McCarty". Those must be some good sounding pickups.

They do rock. I really like the way they go from clean to scream and they are very articulate.

My favourite P90s are Bare Knuckle Nantuckets. Had 'em in a bunch of guitars - including my current SG - and they have a great punchy tone to them: very angry with gain but also clear and mellow cleans.

They do seem to be going up in price over here on mainland europe. What was once a sub 300 Euro guitar is regularly selling for 400+. One thing I will say: I've got a soapbox II maple( originally in Blue Matteo...turned "Sherwood Green") is that the bridge pup is just a little on the "meh" side. Not much character. Love the neck one but bridge comes across as a little thin and fizzy, it lacks character.. I'd rather have a P90 that's closer to a Humbucker sound than a single coil if you know what I mean. ...I'm putting a good old Gibson P90 in mine for Christmas.... :)

Just ordered some Wolfetones for my 25th Anni Mira. Can’t wait to put them in.
