Hey, I'm a bit confused over which pot dimensions fit the lampshade knobs best.
I have a PRS SE Custom 24 (2014) which came with the 3-way toggle and push/pull coil-split.
I have since purchased the PRS lampshade knobs (which must be USA, by default?) and they fit on these knobs perfectly, which surprised me; given even some USA models have plastic tape on the pots.
I am rewiring with Seymour Duncan triple-shot switching rings and dual push/push pots, to give me a huge range of pickup wiring options.
The first push/push I ordered, from AllParts, the lampshade knobs fitted over too loosely; they'd have fallen off easily.
I sent it back and have since read up about sizing - it sounds like there are two options?
metric
- 6mm
- coarse spline
- 18 splines (16, if split shaft)
- Typically asian guitars
imperial
- 1/4 inch (6.35mm)
- fine spline
- 24 splines
- typically USA guitars
Is this correct? Are there any deviations?
I ask, as I expected the pots on my PRS SE Custom 24 to defy the usual Asian style and have metric pots.. but I measured using an electronic caliper and they come in at just under 6mm, with 16 spline split shaft!
I wish I'd measured the AllParts pot before I sent it back.. I have no idea how it could be smaller again, such that the knob was loose on it?
Also, I have no idea why my (presumably USA) lampshade knobs are perfectly, firmly on my smaller metric pots?
I need to buy two push/push pots but am not sure which measurements in size or splines I should be looking at?
Advice appreciated, cheers.
