Which CE24 ?? Please help me decide which one

Hey Everyone! I recently got a new CE24 and I'm really loving it aside from a small detail that I initially thought the guitar was going to have. Due to a misunderstanding with my Sweetwater rep, the guitar I got ended up missing a detail I initially really wanted for the PRS I was going to get. So now i'm trying to decide if I should exchange the one I have for the other one.

The problem is, I like a few things about each of them and with either of them i'd be making some compromises on things I prefer aesthetically.

With the first guitar, I love that it has a darker fretboard that's almost black like an ebony fretboard. I like the darker color of faded blue on the maple cap. I also like the figuring on the maple cap of this guitar a lot. But the first guitar is a wrap finish so it doesn't have any reveal binding, and that was a big selling point of PRS guitars to me initially. I've always loved that small detail and since it isn't available on the S2 line and the core line is out of reach for me for the foreseeable future, I figured the CE24 would be perfect because it gets the reveal binding typically like the core line.

With the second guitar, I love that it has stained reveal binding. I had never seen reveal binding stained before and it seems that it isn't very common. Which was of course, a factor in making me want it lol. So I'm not sure if I actually like it as much as I like that it's not common from what I've seen. The second guitar also has a lighter fretboard, which I don't love or particularly like the look of much on this guitar in particular. The maple top is different as well. It isn't that it isn't a good looking top, it's just that it doesn't look like it pops as much as the other guitars maple top. There are less "flames" from the figuring and there are a few imperfections and a few areas where the stain was sanded down almost too much when they were sanding for the faded look.

Even though I love the look of the one I have right now, I keep on looking at the other guitar thinking i'm going to be missing out on a really premium detail or something. And I can't help but wonder if the other guitar actually looks better due to the binding detail. And I worry the wrap finish doesn't look as good because I've seen it get some hate on this forum and people seem to really prefer the reveal binding when given a choice.

So I figured I'd post pics of both the guitars and see what you guys think!

Does the the first guitar still look good without binding and with the wrap finish?

Are the darker fretboard and a few other details that I slightly prefer on the first guitar, worth sacrificing for the stained reveal binding detail on the other guitar?

Which one would you guys pick?

Which one has a nicer maple top in your opinion?

I'd love your opinions! 😊🙏🏼

I hold on my opinion on the tops as it’s your cash going out the door. They both look great btw. As far as the small detail you mention, I would play (which was why you bought it of course) the guitar you chose and if it has that magic I wouldn’t mess with a good thing. As far as exposed binding you’ll get that on your next PRS purchase so I wouldn’t think you would be missing on anything. I understand details matter but a good guitar is hard to replace so if this guitar plays/sounds killer then it’s a keeper. Good purchase I totally enjoy my CE24 and it happens to be on the guitar stand as we speak so it’s in rotation.

Trick question..... get both. Seriously, I like the one on the left hand side. FWIW don't sleep on the standard versions if you come along one in the future. Enjoy!

Thank you for your replies everyone! I truly appreciate the kind words, wisdom, and insight that you guys help me out with 🙏🏼 You guys are the best!

I honestly love the look of the one I have a lot more than the right one, and it plays like a dream. Sounds sick as hell too!

The top even has this crazy 3D effect and it moves in the light and the flame maple figuring changes shades as you look from different angles. It honestly blows my mind! 🤯

I was really stuck on that stained binding since I haven't seen it often. But I thought about it a ton and after reading your guys' insights, I decided that exchanging the one that I like more aesthetically, for the other one that I only like one thing about aesthetically, seems ass backwards when I break it down logically lol 🤣

I guess I was worried that stained binding was rare or something, and that I'd be missing out on a rare guitar for one with a less rare wrap finish.

But rarity isn't everything! And I've seen that the stained binding isn't crazy rare like I initially thought, it just isn't as common as regular reveal binding.

I'm keeping the one that I have (the guitar on the left in the pics) and I'm just gonna enjoy the hell out of it and appreciate it like it deserves 😊

I love the build quality, the premium look and feel, and amazingly warm yet hifi sound I get from the PRS I got. It's inspired me to already start saving for another one! And like a lot of you guys said, one of my next ones will have reveal binding 😊

Something to keep in mind about rarity: Every single guitar is unique. Be it the stain, the wood figuring, weight, that the person assembling it was having a great day… There’s no one guitar that’s exactly like another.

I really needed to hear that and I love that perspective! It's true and I hadn't thought of it like that.

That made me appreciate my new guitar even more 😀

Your comment earlier about indecision and appreciation made me take a step back and consider the fact that I'm lucky as hell to even have this guitar! 😁

I've been dreaming about owning a PRS for over a decade and I was going to start with an SE model and jumped to a CE24 and I feel damn lucky to be able to do that and to have gotten this guitar in the first place.

I've been so wrapped up in trying to make a perfect choice that I didn't see that the right choice was right in front of me all along.

I honestly liked it more aesthetically and I was trippin off the stained binding making the guitar possibly more rare, when my guitar is a one of a kind to begin with! It sounds awesome and I love the look and feel. It's time to stick to my decision and start enjoying my new guitar 😀

Thanks @RC Mike for the enlightening insights!
