I have always been a hardtail guy, but am REAL interested in trying a PRS w/ Tremolo. Question, if the PRS trem is so great why do I always see the models without their trem arm in them? Just an observation. Another question while I'm here. Who makes the hardware for the SE Models from WMIC? Is it considered sacrilegious to update an SE in such a way to make it appear as a Core Model ? Eg: Veneer headtsocks, decals, etc. ???

A lot of players have trems but don't use them. Some players do and to a very high level, but for me it's a feature that gets tiresome quickly, I went wangocrazy back in the floyd rose days with all the dive-bombs and siren sounds, etc, so now I just use my fingers for tremolo & vibrato.

One thing to keep in mind, trems have springs and give a bit when you bend notes, if you play stop tails (which are a tad more solid in that respect) that will take some getting used too. I personally block off the trem on my 408 so it reacts like a stop tail.

Using the trem takes practice. I'm still not very good, but when it's right, it's lovely. I usually leave the arm in the case, but I get it out for a few songs and work on it. Normal string bending is different but easy on a trem (vibrato) equipped guitar. The hand position is better for me to feel the right palm muting so I like a trem even if I'm not using it.

I use my trem a bit. And it really does work great. Hardly ever goes out of tune.
When I am setting up for a band practice or gig I install the arm.
Otherwise I just leave it off for basic practicing.

I plan to upgrade one of my SE's head-stock in the very near future. Already have the 'core" style head-stock sticker on the way. So I'm all for that. Not trying to fool anyone, just like the look.

It`s another option, like coil splitting. I use it when I hear it as being part of a phrase. It`s another flavor for the stew.

People rarely photograph their guitars with the trem arm on. That doesn't mean they don't use them.

Assuming that people don't use their terms because they don't appear in every pic is a bit of a head-scratcher for me.

They put the vibrato bridge on so many models, sometimes you don't have much choice whether you're a trem guy or not. Think of how many Strats you've seen without the bar on.

Some people just like it for other reasons even though they don't use the bar.

No idea who makes SE hardware.

I personally think it's silly to try to represent an SE as anything other than what it is. Ain't no shame in playing an SE!

I leave'em in the guitar most of the time...

Four (or was it five) quarters hardtailed my Strat a long long time ago and it will stay like that until I sell it if I ever do. I've had a couple of PRSi second hand with trems but sold them, I wouldn't buy one new with a trem.

Have at the mods! Post pics in the Modified Monday thread. We love that stuff!

I was a lot more into trems years ago than I am now. I break strings, so trems are kind of a pain in the a$$. I still keep a couple (one is my avatar), but all of the guitars I've bought over the last 5-6 years have been the non-trem variety.

The trem adds a tonal character that I love in a PRS. The only time the stick isn't mounted is when it's in a case for transport. Otherwise, I've never had a serious problem with it and haven't broken a string in years...seriously. And I ain't soft on 'em.
