Where to stay in DC area?

So I'm trying to plan a trip with my wife for my 30th birthday, and I'm wondering where a good place to stay in and around DC would be? We have a little dough to spend, but not tons... especially if I'm going to convince her to let me bring something home from the PRS factory!

Any ideas where we should day to see all of the sites your fine country has to offer?

You can narrow your search by concentrating on the things you are planning to do. Then look for hotels need those attractions. The DC Metro is pretty good, but less time traveling on the Metro means mor time in the museums and monuments.


Of course the best place to stay would be on a Murphy bed between the S2 production line and the Private Stock area.

Stay in Northern Virginia at a major hotel chain near a metro train station. (ie something owned by Marriott etc.) and take the metro train into DC. Don't walk anywhere that you can't see white marble buildings and sidewalks.

Old Town Alexandria is really nice, as is Georgetown. Of course staying close to the monuments is the most convenient and will allow you to walk to many of the attractions.

Tons of hotels everywhere. Expedia is a good way to compare. Transportation is a major consideration.
I took a Segway tour in DC last September. Highly recommended.

I live in NoVA and work in DC. My personal recommendation is to stay in the Rosslyn area (lots of great little restaurants and such) and Metro into DC. You avoid the higher taxes of DC but you're still a stone's throw away. The Key Bridge Marriott is a nice place and situated only a few miles from Reagan National Airport and less than a mile from the Rosslyn Metro stop.

After a bit of work in DC flew out my daughter stayed at the Capitol Hilton you can get reasonable rates and free breakfast ( really good food ) and close to most things touristy

DC has some stuff to see, but if you really want to bring something home from the factory visit in Sept. Enjoy some Experience, then go see DC. Or better yet, start in DC, then finish on a high note at PRS EXP. :biggrin:

I've seen a few shows at the Iota in Rosslyn. It's a neat area.

I know Last Train Home (Eric Brace) plays the Iota - great band and Eric is a great singer/songwriter/guitar player. I watched him break a string and re-string his guitar twice in mid-song (at SXSW in Austin - not DC)!

What Rob said - you won't even have to convince your wife to let you take something home, you might have to convince her to limit it!
