Where does your concept of tone develop from?

Jup, same. I always seem to dial in a tone that is recognizable "me", regardless of the amp.

I have no reference, other than the tone in my head.
I think these are good things.

Speaking only for myself, I've always found that trying to duplicate someone else's tone is a fool's errand.

On the other hand, being inspired by someone else's tone to try different sounds on for size is interesting. Nonetheless, I always come back to 'my sound'.

Best compliment I ever recieved on my playing is when my ex, a musician, said she could always find me in a music store by my sound.

I never wanted to sound like anyone and really never cared to play others songs. Sure, I've learned a few songs and riffs of many more, but that is more of a learning experience. I'm not a great guitarist and probably never will be, but I sure do enjoy playing and coming into my own.
