What's your drink of choice when out and about?

I hate to get stuck in a rut, so I usually order the darkest beer they have on tap rather than a brand - often Guiness which suits me fine.
Then I'll order something else for seconds.
 
If I drink Coke, which I only do rarely, I prefer the Mexican variant = real sugar instead of HFCS. Probably not any healthier, but tastes better. Mostly I drink water, at least when not drinking alcoholic bevs.
 
Whatever real ale they have on the handpumps, particularly a local one I haven't tried before.

This would be my choice when visiting Yorkshire. Which I finally did, for the first time, last fall. :)

Elsewhere on the planet, not so much although there are starting to be places in the USA where one can get a decent real ale pulled through a handpump.
 
Whatever IPA or pale ale is on draft. If they have draft beer but don't have an IPA or Pale Ale on draft, it's not a place I would like to frequent at all. If they don't have draft beer, they'll usually have a nice IPA in a bottle.
 
I do like a beer, on the continent they have a few decent abbey brewed, in the UK it has to be a good winter warmer or porter. I am a fiend for a good mojito, bourbon (or the best we can get over here), top of the pile is a vodka martini made to Ian Flemmings recipe, just because I can get all the right ingredients here.
 
Usually a water or a coke .If I'm feeling good,it might be a gin+tonic. I do like the occasional Peroni as well. Sort of reminds of Newcastle without the weight :D.

Perfectly legal. Turns out the absinthe ban was based on a goofy European theory (without any scientific evidence to support it) that something in it caused people to go nuts, because a notorious murder defendant was observed drinking it, so the story goes. France panicked, and this was all around the time of prohibition getting off the ground here.

It's really just strong alchohol with a slightly different buzz, much the way a Martini hits you differently from, say, a vodka or a scotch. That's probably due to the herbal stuff in it.

There used to be a trace amount of some kind of plant toxin in it, but that was found to be harmless in the quantities found in the beverage.

Absinthe was a staple of Parisian cafes from around 1870-early 1900s, and its mystique is far stronger than its effect on the brain. But that's what makes it kinda fun, plus there's a ritual that goes with it, pouring it over a sugar cube on a spoon, etc, to get rid of the bitterness from the wormwood that's in it.

The anti-absinthe laws were abolished all over Europe and here around 2007.

Oh. I thought that Absinthe was supposed to contain traces of opiates and hallucinogins in it.

I loved the Johnny Depp movie about Jack the Ripper, when he prepared his absinthe with the perfect "mixer" of narcotic dropped into a suger cube, and then lit on flame in the drink. I believe absinthe is high enough in alcohol content to maintain the flame.

And, according to what I've read, it does result in delusions and hallucinations in some people.

I wouldn't know...I tried to taste it once, and it was so strong I couldn't even swallow it.
