Whats under the cover?

What do 57/08 (bass) pickup looks like without the cover?

Is it black?

Is it easy to take off?
Just some tin to cut or remove?

Likely black. Heat up the solder and use a knife to separate the cover from baseplate.

Don’t forget to scrape the wax off

I had my technician take the cover off one of mine. Looks like any other typical black uncovered humbucker.

Round.

Squabbins were made to look like covered pickups but not with a cover on. Anything covered is going to be round bobbins.
