Whats the optimal # of guitars...

Factors to determine a proper assumption:
Budget, time, GAS sensitivity, tone addiction and holy grail tendency, tonal flexibility, space, storing reality, spouse's or fiance's rules, and so on.

Our household consists of:
1x Squier 3/4 Strat (belongs to our daughter, but it turned out to be deko only for her)
2× electrics, 2× acoustics (my wife's)
14× electrics, 2x acoustics (mine)

1× 2×12 Combo
1× Blackstar Fly 3
1× 100W tube head
1x 100W class D pedal amp
1x Helix
1x HD500X
1× 4×12
1× 12"/10" combination
1× 1×12"
1× pedalboard

But: All of my wife's guitars, three of mine (2 electrics, 1 acoustic), the 100W tube head, the 4×12, the 2×12 combo and HD500X are stored in the basement of my parents in law's house.

At our home I have 12 electrics in two wooden stands (which fulfill the aesthetical demands of my spouse) and a single stand. The Western guitar hangs aswell on a single stand.
My intent to buy these guitars was necessarily not a certain tone hunt. It was the respective guitar.
My (current) opinion on my stock is: I'm satisfied.

And finally some Happy-wife-happy-life guitarstand proposals:

It was formerly a close-to-floor stand, but I elevated it to integrate my cab with enlarged side elements made by a local carpenter.
It carries three guitars made by luthier Peter Steinacher (brandname Linus), his collaboration with pickup-winder Max Mauluff (Peter made the neck and did the final setup, Max contributed the body of an Aria Legend Pro and he made the pickguard), my both 513s, and my EBMM Kaizen 7.

The four guitars stand is s little bit DIY. I had the sites of the seven-guitars-stand remaining and integrated three bars, one with four neck rests and two with adhesive (artificial) leather liners as rests for the guitar sides.
I carries four Ps: PRS SE Tremonti, PRS SE Holcomb, Parker Fly Deluxe, Peavey HP2 NOS.
The Reverend has got its own Ultimate stand.

I have a two tier overflow guitar stand that looks simllar to the stand with the amp at the bottom of it.

Here's where the other 24 guitars go (I need to update the pics since I've traded a few guitars to buy other guitars).

Heh, yeah, n = n+1 is nicely iterative pattern. It really is a case, for me, of determining how often I run the algorithm...

So this is a good point. Recently I finally restored our guitars and other stringed instruments collection to the wall hangers & stands throughout the house - they had been in various stages of storage for various reasons over the last 18 months or so, but those restrictions were no longer in place. I will readily admit 60% of them are PRS electric guitars (my main instrument). The rest are PRS basses (my wife), mix of PRS and other brand acoustic guitars (me), and other acoustic instruments like mandolin-family stuff and banjo-family stuff.

As part of my "getting all my toys back out of the toy box" effort, I pledged to myself to try to use a different electric guitar each time I wanted to play - especially for band jams/practice. So I took all the picks out of the strings as I put them up. When I play one, I'll grab a pick, and when done, rehang it with the pick. Kinda like the trick you can do with your kitchen appliances or widgets - put blue tape on all of them, remove the tape when you use it, and after a year, consider whether you really need anything that still has blue tape on it.

I'm sure there will be much variation at first, since I have a nice selection. e.g. I played my Santana at the last practice (which was a while back due to travel), and played my WL MEV last night (more on that later).

After a while, when there just a handful or two left to exercise, if I find I keep avoiding a guitar, it might be a message.

Speaking of that WL MEV - I got that a while ago now, but it has never made it into heavy rotation as my "go to" axe for practice or writing or anything really. I have played it occasionally, of course, but it never "clicked" with me they way the rest have...until last night. Maybe it was because we decided to play a selection of our "greatest hits" (stuff we've written and are quite proud of), so I was already in my comfort zone, or maybe because I've also been playing my latest instrument-acquisition, a mandocello (which is _very_ different from an acoustic guitar, mandolin/mandola, or anything else really). but I thought I played quite well/inspired, and my bandmates did too.

Of course, now it should go back on the wall so I can play the next unplayed axe, but I might just go one more round with it...

Giving an MEV a break and then later coming back to it can be a most enlightening and enriching experience!!!
My WL MEV with brazzy fretboard and East Indian Rosewood neck is not going ANYWHERE!!!

You have a very nice instance of that model - love the swamp ash body! Mine has a Brazzy FB and IERW neck like yours, with a Hog body (and quilted maple top).

I noticed that I was getting some very nice single coil tones last night, and used them extensively, both as clean/pseudo-acoustic and with some dirt - and then I'd kick over the full HB modes and get really rocking!

Awesome!!! I've found the body on mine makes a subtle difference in tone from yours. I have a buddy who has one equipped just like yours.
They are both awesome sounding and playing instruments!!!

I ask because I was at 12 at one poing...got down to 9...then 4 very quickly which made me feel in control of my PRS addiction...BUT with the recent acquisition of the new SE Studio standard and a parlor P20e im back up there...am I crazy to sell one of my S2s to fund the studio standard?? I mean I truly enjoy them all!! Btw I live with my wife and these 6 now guitars in a NY apt 1 bedroom lol
Optimal # of Guitars = n + 1
where n = Current Collection
