What to do when this happens?!

Hi All,

After getting very good advice from some people back in Feb/March (thanks again!) I ordered my first -and hopefully not last- PRS, an AP CU24 with everything I needed/desired: 24 frets, ebony fretboard, wide thin rosewood neck, a nice top and, above all, the chance of getting rid of all the healthy envy I feel when I read this forum or watch YT videos... :)

Thing is that yesterday I got a call from my dealer telling me that it is not yet going to happen... for the third time in six months! It is at this point when I need your experience to answer to this: what do you guys do when this happens?!?

I have tried diving, running, cycling, all types of alcoholic intoxications, going through every single page of the PS Friday thread, watching YT videos, holidays, back to work... no results at all!!!

Please do not take this as a criticism or anything similar, my dad used to make violins and I know how difficult is to come up with an accurate delivery date, it is just that after 4+2+whatever time is left, this is becoming an obsession!!! :)

Thank you everyone and happy PRSing!!

You just need a little fix to get you through until your big score... I suggest revisiting the alcoholic intoxication while browsing SE's on eBay. Get tipsy, change the viewing preferences to "lowest first plus shipping" and "Buy it now", when you're good and cross-eyed find the one that speaks to you the most and press the button.

Thanks guys! I knew I was asking at the right people!! :top:

Go to a store right now and buy one off the rack to hold you over

I sort of thought about that in August, and should have done it as you suggest!! Buuuuut since I went on holiday and the last expected date was the end of the month I thought that I could manage the wait... which I didn't! Either way, I was far from home and the only PRS dealer in Spain is in Madrid so no real chances... which takes us to Sergio's suggestion:

That is actually work in progress!!! I am on a train heading to a wedding in my hometown (Barcelona) so chances to revisit -and even getting better at it- the alcoholic intoxication are definitely there!!!

Thanks guys! Somehow, I was looking for something a bit less guitar-related but having plenty of options is always a guarantee... Three more weeks, I really hope that is it!!!

something not guitar related. take up painting, walls, pics, etc. The possibilities are endless.

Thanks, Wardog, sure there are! Retaking photography sounds like a nice one!

Question: Have you already paid for the guitar on order?

Hi Pfloyd57, not sure if I can talk prices here but just in case, yes, I paid one third of the total price given by the dealer by the beginning of March. I am a finance guy, should I claim my share of the returns? Jokes apart, do other dealers take orders without upfront payments elsewhere?

This one time long ago I was thinking about placing a special order and talking to my regular sales guy at the Gibson/Fender Outlet Store (which is what I call them now... everyone else calls them Guitar Center) and he offered me a loaner PRS guitar to use at no cost (if I were to place an order) until the guitar I would order came in. Maybe your dealer will do the same.

I've recently found that the best cure against GAS is actually getting rid of old gear, oddly enough. Kind of switches the focus 180 degrees. At least for a time. This might work in your case too.

Interesting. When I placed my order in January for an AP P24 Trem, I paid 100% up front. My guitar was built and in my hands in 12 weeks. Ask your dealer to show you some proof that he has actually placed the order with PRS and if he doesn't, demand your money back.

That sounds interesting, Michael, I have never tried that approach but may be not only a good way of dealing with GAS but also to tidy up the house! I have some gear which is almost unused these days so may give it a go. Thanks!!!

Hi Hangar, and thanks for the suggestion. I tried to get a guitar when they first called to inform about the first delay but their answer was negative... Apparently someone else had done that in the past and returned the guitar pretty damaged, so I can understand it. I even told them that I would buy it in case it wasn't properly treated...
You know, having just one dealer does not make things easier... competition is good!

I did indeed and they did not show anything, so I got in touch with PRS customer service, who kindly confirmed that expected date of completion for the guitar was 15 of August... That left me relaxed as at some point I was not feeling comfortable at all... At least I know that the order is there and that it should not take much much longer!

It's like this, see... Gas is something you breathe, right? You can't keep inhaling gear, you gots to exhale every once in a while, so you can draw in a new breath afterwards. A really big one, like....

I endorse this method. Also, with a little planning or luck you may time your search with the end of an auction that doesn't have the "buy it now" option. Adds a layer of excitement to the process.

3am now in Barcelona and pretty loaded... I'd better go to bed or I may end up regretting!!!

That's where you're wrong, buddy. Saunter up to the bar and Tono-Christie-Barcelona that sh!t, and buy a Santana SE on your phone and yell: "Ole"! The women will find you irresistible.

I went 4 months waiting for my prs dgt. I was patient most times but there was once when I called my sales guy and said "where the fu..is my dgt b.t.h " .....I wasn't intoxicated either lol.....I just have a whack sense of humour. When I got my dgt, I was in awwww and still haven't fallen out of love with at all.

I think when it does happen to get in to your hands, you'll be more appreciative of the actual guitar because this will be something you waited for.

Btw my dgt is in the shop getting a pickup swap in her. I want it back now lol

I am totally convinced about that being the case... Call me romantic but I feel that I need to wait for the right one to be the first! Only in terms of guitars, in other cases, the first might well be the right one :)
