What species of Mahogany is PRS using for their Core Guitars?

Just curious..on the Gear page, they were talking about Gibson using Fijian mahogany on their guitars these days… Just wondering what mahogany PRS is using on their USA guitars.. anyone know?
While we’re at it, it would be interesting to know what species they use on the imported SE line? I know their tops are maple veneer… ……

Most S2’s are full maple tops. No veneer. They are not highly prized finishes so flame quality is usually not very ornate. For those that don’t like flashy guitars I think S2 and CE are quality guitars

My mistake. Maybe it was that the S2’s are using 1/4” tops. Nothing wrong with that. Still adds nice high end…

As far as I know Gibson Custom shop uses Honduran Mahogany on their reissues, and they overtly state so.

When not overtly stated so, the rest are “Mahogany”. It’s really the scientific names that bear more relevance.

On some WL and PS models, African ribbon mahogany. Beautiful stuff. On the core models, Honduran. On the SE and S2 models, I have no idea, never owned one.

Some woods called mahogany make bad guitars, some woods called mahogany make great guitars. Some look similar, some sound similar. Lastly to my experience the variance between two pieces of Honduran can be as great as the variance between a piece of Honduran and a related but non-sweitenia species.

All I ask is that the builder choose wisely and build it well.
