You all know the expressions "Use it or lose It" or "If your not growing you're dying"? What new music / songs are you learning to play right now?

I am working on the following;

1. Stray Cat Strut - By The Stray Cats - I have to have this one down pat in a month.
2. Paint It Black - Rolling Stones - I will play it the way Justin teaches it on his web site
3. Slow Dancing in A Burning Room - John Mayer
4. Black Magic Woman - Santana (I have to learn the bass part for this as well)

Acoustically, I am working on

1. What Else Can I Do - Kat Edmonson (A modern day Latin Jazz piece with great silky chords and a Brazilian vibe)
2. You Got a Friend - James Taylor (This one will take me a while as my finger-picking skills are mediocre at best)

Looking forward to hearing what you are all up to. It may give me some ideas for my next "project"

This time of year I usually pull out a book of Christmas songs and find a few to try to make interesting - even if just to me. I'm quite enjoying Toyland and Lullaby for Christmas Eve - I just like the chord progressions.

Last weekend I started to work on Scarified by Racer X. I have been messing around with this song for years, but never stuck with it long enough to learn the whole song. Hopefully I can actually make good progress on it this time.

Damn, that's pretty ambitious!

I'm currently learning the slide guitar parts for that Bee Gees song "Love You Inside Out" using a cigarette lighter 'cause I lost/broke all my proper slides.

Decided to push myself with my new PRS, so I've started on doing a recording of Hendrix's Freedom. Ambitious for me, with several interludes and bridges. Tempo changes, sheesh. I've got a rough drum and bass track down and I'm starting on the guitar parts, a section at a time. Hopefully in a month or so I'll be able to do an. acceptable pass at the whole thing.

Bullet for my Valentine: Tears Don't Fall (sans solo. Not good enough for that yet!)
Breaking Benjamin: Failure

I'v been learning the song Walls by the group Yes, off their Talk album. What a great song, actually that whole album rocks, Trevor Rabin is a beast.

Been working on Doc Watson's version of Deep River Blues (fingerpicking). About 3 months almost have it down.

Great choices! I recently learned and posted a YouTube cover of 'All These Things I Hate' (Revolve Around Me). No solo to worry about in that one, which made it easier for me. :-)

Good Girls Don't The Knack
:D

Nice! I tried working on that once, but never got very far before I moved on to something else.

Just finished another backing track for my mother to play with at church, which probably explains the smell of brimstone around here.

For mine own self, working on...

"Gracefully" - Vintage Trouble (probably the next recording, but that vocal line is all over the place)
"From The Pinnacle To The Pit" - Ghost (just started playing around with that)
some version of the "Doctor Who" theme
An acoustic original

I've also worked out Vintage Trouble's "Blues Hand Me Down", but I don't have plans to record that, at least as of now. Nalle Colt is such a tasteful player - especially that "Gracefully" solo.

I am just messing around with it. I doubt I'll get all the way through though. Extremely challenging song. =(

+1 put a daughter on piano. Other daughters singing. Play around with the rhythms and chords. Great melodies

I've made my mind up to finish three solo's over Christmas I never got through in the past, one each from Paul Kossoff, Mick Ralphs and a Clapton solo. All fairly simple but I get bored after a while especially when my jamming buddies aren't interested

A colleague plays bass in a cover band (lead guitar = PRS) and they'll learn two or three new tunes on a Sunday, how do they do that? They've been playing together for twenty plus years so I guess they got the mojo?

Last week: Jenny Wren, by Paul McCartney (almost ok, just need to make it a bit smoother) + Can't find my way home (I use the Eric Clapton + Steve Winwood live version as reference)
This week: Just Breathe, by Pearl Jam (not even started, but it seems doable)
Next week: my desire would be Age of worry, by John Mayer, but I am not sure I will be able to

Do you have a link? I'm always up for new songs to learn. Would love to see your cover!

This is my first post. I guess it's as good a place as any to start. Right now I'm working on Still Got The Blues - Gary Moore and Shelter Me - Tab Benoit.
