What model should be next for the S2 line?

Essentially isn't that the bolt on series?
I like 22 frets with 2 hbs...enjoying my SAS but it's not an S2....they haven't quite hit the mark yet and a decent condition CE 22 for a decent price is hard to come by!

I'm not talking about se. PRS classifies Se as se. I'm referring to the current US bolt on series.

Those have overlap in construction with the S2. The new Ce24 is essentially the bolt on S2 Cu24 with a differnet carve. A rerelease of the Ce22 would be cool. Or a US SAS. NF SAS?

I see what you're saying ...but I keep thinking an S2 is a more inexpensive USA line...id love to see more of that...big S2 fan have 5 of them and have had more at some points in time....also need 22 frets as I mentioned I get lost noodling up there with 24 frets!

The right radio show can get you guys hooked up...

"Welcome to the WGTR PRS Request Line. We had a request for a PRS version of a Tom Anderson take on a Gibson take of the Strat. So this dark silver metalflake Semi-semi-semi-Strat with a pearl black pick guard goes out to Pluto 348712! Come to the station and pick it up, Pluto!"

[live audience cheering SFX]

"And now a word from our sponsor..."

[jingle] 'You'll wonder where the tarnish went when you brush your hardware with Pepsodent..."

"And folks, don't forget that we have a cases of free used motor oil from Ed's Garage that you can use on your fretboards. Fred's a good guy and he can fix your car, and fix your guitar, at the very same time, and all at the lowest exorbitant rates!"

Ahahaha! Pepsodent! My entire family gives me “the look” when I sing the Pepsodent jingle. Worth it every time.

S2 and Bolt-on series share the same Neck-construction. That cuts down a lot of manufacturing time as well as reduce material waste (so get more 'necks' from the same quantity of raw material) and therefore reduce cost.

The S2 was designed in such a way to keep the cost down and be the 'entry' point for 'Made in US' models and some of that was using imported and/or lower cost parts - the pick-ups or Bridge for example. whilst the re-designed 'Bolt-ons' too shared the same thickness Maple caps, same neck construction, but had US pups.

Now it seems S2 and Bolt-ons are almost merging and therefore I can't see them bringing a 'bolt-on' S2. Maybe why they brought some Bolt-ons to the SE line instead. Guitars like the Silver Sky or Fiore for example may need to be made with 'cheaper' woods, import pick-ups etc to reduce cost further for example.

It’s curious (IMO) how they’ve consciously chosen to not offer a Vela with the PRS trem.

IMO, a trem on a Vela would be like a trem on a Tele; just wrong.

My Velas are the only S2s I currently own, and though I've had a couple others from the line in the past, their pricing is such that I generally tend to cores for my mainlines and a few SEs for the cheap 'n' cheerful toys, though I think the shift to American electronics is a huge plus.

I feel a s2 594 semihollow…maybe for 40th anny with special bird pattern? Hopefully they ditch the white ivory and go pearloid with all the birds.

I hope the the hog finishes get better color options. It’s been the same for many years with a random addition here and there. They can do cool metallic colors on hogs. It’s allowed.

IMO the bridge plate on a Tele is an important part of its inherent tone. It interacts with the bridge pickup.

Maybe the Vela bridge does too, I dunno?

To me, the Vela is kind of an undefined offset offering from PRS that has been available with three different kinda of bridges over its production: standard “barrel” saddle bridge, the regular stoptail bridge, and then a Floyd on Vernon’s sig. it’s also gone through four different pickups if we include his model.

At its heart, it’s still just a typical mahogany, set neck, 25” scale PRS. The whole point of it is it’s look (again IMO).

If it’s meant to try and attract a customer that would normally play offset guitars, then I’d think a trem would at least be an option.

It’s more shoegaze than cowboy looking.

I’d love for PRS to develop a tele style bridge with a trem for the Vela

I have a guitar with exactly that - the fretking country squire
